Found this on http://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews/ynews_ts988 regarding Palin.
Summary below:
For the second time in just over a week, Fox News is coming under fire for misusing old news footage. The latest flap is leading some people to charge that the cable news network is intentionally misleading its audience, while Fox claims a "production error."
Wednesday's incident occurred when Fox News host Gregg Jarrett mentioned that a Sarah Palin appearance and book signing in Grand Rapids, Michigan had a massive turnout. As footage rolled of a smiling and waving Palin amidst a throng of fans, Jarrett noted that the former Republican vice-presidential candidate is "continuing to draw huge crowds while she's promoting her brand-new book,'' adding that the images being shown were "some of the pictures just coming in to us.... The lines earlier had formed this morning."
However, the video used in the segment was from a 2008 McCain/Palin campaign rally. In response to the minor uproar that arose after clips of Jarrett's report hit the Internet, Fox senior vice-president of news Michael Clemente issued an initial statement saying, "This was a production error in which the copy editor changed a script and didn't alert the control room to update the video."
On Thursday afternoon, Fox News issued an on-air apology delivered by host Jane Skinner:
Yesterday we told you about Sarah Palin kicking off her book tour and then we spoke to Sean Hannity about an interview that he did with former Governor Palin. When introducing the segment we showed you footage of people lining up in Michigan for a book signing that evening. In the tease before the segment, the tease to commercial, we told you how those people were already lining up to meet Palin. The problem is we didn't show you the video we were actually referencing. Instead we mistakenly aired what's called "file tape" of Sarah Palin. We didn't mean to mislead anybody in that tease. It was a mistake, and for that we apologize.
The current mishap comes on the heels of a controversy sparked last week when footage from a conservative rally held over the summer was played on "Hannity" during a segment on a more recent rally. During the clip, host Sean Hannity marveled over the large turnout for a Washington, DC protest. The Daily Show later pointed out that there seemed to be some inconsistencies with the video shown on Hannity's show, namely that the atmospheric conditions seemed to vary from shot to shot. Hannity later apologized on the air for what he called "an inadvertent mistake."
Barely a week into Palin’s blitz to promote “Going Rogue,” media coverage is becoming its own story. Fox News rival MSNBC caught heat last week for using altered images of Sarah Palin on the air, for which they later apologized. On Wednesday, Yahoo! News reported Newsweek’s defense of their latest controversial cover, which Palin herself blasted as “sexist.”
The idea that Republicans were the party that brought about the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is being thrown around on the web. At first, I thought this was too silly to spend much time on. But it seems to be a growing tall tale of conservative goodness! Many websites seem to have taken this as a theme of discussion. In reality it is nothing more than history told with a bias. (Which happens frequently, I might add.) The continuing advancement of this particular bit of revisionism needs to be addressed before the myth becomes a psuedo-reality.
Recently on this site, jstol regurgitated these conservative talking points by stating:
"The Liberal wing of the Democrat party is the party of segregation. To deny this is to deny history.
The Democrat Party was responsible for supporting slavery. It took a Republican, Abraham Linclon, to end slavery.
The Democrat Party Party, in the form of the Southern Democrats (Dixiecrats), was responsible for prolonging segregation. It took action on the part of Republicans in Congress to push the legislation through in 1964 to end segregation and promote civil rights."
Now members of a Black Republican group are putting out bill boards proclaiming that Martin Luther King was a Republican.
In fairness, part of this is true. Some 150 years ago, the Democrats were in part responsible for supporting slavery...although the main issue was not slavery per se, but the issue of state's rights versus the powers of the Federal government. (Back then it was the Democrats who were TEA PARTY members.) But jstol is correct that it took Abraham Lincoln to end slavery and it is correct that Lincoln was a Republican. It is also true that "Dixiecrats" were responsible for prolonging the fight for desegregation in the 60's. Fifty-four days were spent in filibuster with Sen. Byrd (D-WVA) speaking for a record-breaking 14 hours and 13 minutes to keep the Civil Rights Act from being passed. But that's only part of the story. The reality is that this was not a Democrat vs Republican fight....it was a North vs South fight with a bi-partisan effort made by both sides of the struggle. And at that time in our history, most Southerners voted Democratic BECAUSE the Republicans WERE the party of Lincoln.
Here are the facts: On June 11, 1963, President John F. Kennedy asked for legislation from Congress "giving all Americans the right to be served in facilities which are open to the public—hotels, restaurants, theaters, retail stores, and similar establishments," as well as "greater protection for the right to vote." Eight days later he sent a proposed bill to Congress to be voted upon. It was considered by Civil Rights advocates as a step in the right direction but overall too weak in enforcement to be completely effective.
Southern legislators from both sides of the aisle then began to do everything possible to either slow passage of the bill or to kill it outright. During the time that the bill was stuck in various committees, President Kennedy was assassinated. At which point, Lyndon Johnson used both his extensive background in legislative politics and the presidential "bully pulpit" to rally support for the bill. At this time, Democrats held majorities in both houses of Congress. So it is true that you can say that Democrats tried to kill The Civil Rights Act. Because a lot of Southern Democrats who were chairmen of specific committees did try to do so. But to do so, you must ignore Lyndon Johnson's efforts, nor can you then claim that it was Republicans who were responsible for this piece of legislation. The final votes on the bill tell the true tale.
The original House bill passed by a vote of 290 to 130. Of those votes, Democrats voted 152 to 96 in support of passage and Republicans voted 138 to 34 in support. The Senate version passed by a vote of 73 to 27. Of which, Democrats voted 46 to 21 to support the bill and Republicans voted 27 to 6 in support.
Now where these numbers get interesting is when you look at the vote from the standpoint of Northern legislators versus the votes of Southern legislators (combining both parties.) In the House, Southern Democrats voted 7 to 87 against the Bill and Southern Republicans voted 0-10 against it. (In other words, NOT A SINGLE SOUTHERN REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN SUPPORTED THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT.) SOUTHERN CONGRESSMEN VOTED 7 TO 97 AGAINST THE BILL. Northern Democrats voted 145 to 9 in support of the bill while Northern Republicans voted 138 to 24 in support. NORTHERN CONGRESSMEN VOTED 283 TO 33 IN SUPPORT OF THE BILL.
While in the Senate, Southern Democrats voted 1 to 20 AGAINST the bill, while the lone Southern Republican also voted against the bill. Northern Democratic Senators voted 45 to 1 in favor of the bill while Northern Republicans were a little less enthusiastic in support of Civil Rights, they voted 27 to 5 in favor of the bill. FINAL TOTALS: SOUTHERN SENATORS VOTED 1 TO 21 AGAINST THE BILL AND NORTHERN SENATORS VOTED 72 TO 6 IN SUPPORT.
So when you examine the numbers, it becomes clear that while Democrats were obviously divided by region on this vote, so were Republicans. And it is a lie of history to try to claim that Democrats were the "Party of Segregation".
And as to Martin Luther King being a Republican. That's true. Martin Luther King SR. was a registered Republican but his son, Martin Luther King JR, never claimed ANY party affiliation. And if you grew up in the early 80's during the debate for establishment of a Martin Luther King Holiday, you know that Republicans then were not only NOT claiming MLK as one of their own....they were objecting to the establishment of the holiday altogether. Why? Because Republicans said at that time that Martin Luther King, Jr WAS A COMMUNIST! (And now he's one of them!)
And that's why it's so important to read history rather than just listen to regurgitated talking points!
Newt Gingrich endorsed Liberal Republican Dede Scozzofava. When it became obvious that she could not win the election she dropped out and endorsed the Democrat instead of the Conservative Hoffman. Last night Hoffman, a newcomer to the race was defeated by the Democrat Owens. Had Scozzofava endorsed the Conservative Hoffman he would have easily won the race.
Newt Gingrich can be blamed for this Democrat win.
New York's 23rd Congressional District has become the site of a showdown between RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) and conservatives. The conservatives are winning -- but the RINOs are not being gracious in defeat. Now the RINOs are showing how much party unity means to them. They have no loyalty to conservatives; why should conservatives have any loyalty to them?
The latest showdown came when ultra-liberal State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava became the Republican candidate in that district. The ACORN racketeering arm, the Working Families Party, backed her. Yet the Republican old guard backed this useful idiot. Newt Gingrich backed this tool. The name "Republican" was all that mattered to them. Not principle.
But Sarah Palin, a true conservative, instead endorsed Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman. And so did other conservatives. The Governor of Texas, Rick Perry, said: "Electing Doug Hoffman will send a clear message that cannot be denied: conservatives must stand on principle." Oklahoma gubernatorial candidate Mary Fallin said that Hoffman had "reminded Americans everywhere that principles come before party affiliation." Kansas senatorial candidate Todd Tiahrt explained the choice: "The Republican Party is either going to return to the party of fiscal responsibility and consistent conservative principles as it was under Ronald Reagan or it will continue down the path of ‘sporadic moderation.'"
And Saturday, the Arctic Fox had the last laugh: Scozzafava dropped out of the race, saying: "In recent days, polls have indicated that my chances of winning this election are not as strong as we would like them to be." Palin responded generously, writing: "I want to personally thank Republican Dede Scozzafava for acting so selflessly today in the NY District 23 race. Now it's time to cross the finish line with Doug Hoffman so that he can get to work for District 23 and the rest of America."
Palin explained what was at stake: "With Congress poised to overhaul one-sixth of our economy with so-called health care ‘reform' (which is really a government takeover of health care) and with plans to enact a cap-and-tax bill just as our economy struggles to recover, Doug Hoffman will be a voice for fiscal responsibility and common sense in Washington.
We need candidates like Doug now more than ever."
Scozzafava was not as generous. On Sunday, she showed her true colors: this enemy in our ranks announced that she was backing the Democratic candidate, Bill Owens, not the Conservative Hoffman.
This showed just how bad things have become. The Republican Party has been hijacked. Conservatives have been driven underground by the RINOs and the DIABLOs (Democrats in all but label only). This leftish creep was insidious until we got clubbed over the head when the ultra liberal media picked our presidential candidate -- the Gang of 14 tool John McCain.
We all sucked it up. We went along. We embraced the ticket in the spirit of AROO -- (any Republican over Obama) -- and we held our noses until Sarah Palin came along. Ah, just a spoonful of Sarah helped the medicine go down.
But now it's time to clean house. Newt and his ilk will be relegated to the dustbin of history, and deservedly so. Enough with the old, in with the true!
Today is MEDIOCRE TUESDAY! (Not Super Tuesday) If you’ve been listening to cable news…this is as important an election as the Presidential election in 2008. On this date, the future of the country will be decided…Republicans will either begin their resurgence or else truly become the GOP (GRAND OBLIVIOUS PARTY). The truth is that this is election will have little effect in reality but is important for the direction that it takes each party and the lessons each side learns today.
There are many smaller races all across the country but the ones to watch boil down to only four. And you can be sure that regardless of who wins or loses…the spin from both sides will be incredible to watch. But remember, who wins & who loses is relatively unimportant. What is important is WHY they win or lose and by how much.
Here are some things to consider about the BIG FOUR:
1) THE VIRGINIA GOVERNOR’S RACE: Bob McDonnell (R) holds a commanding lead over Creigh Deeds (D) in all of the polling. Conservatives point to this race as an indicator that Independents are “over” Obama and are looking to return to the Conservative fold.
There has been a lot of hand-wringing on the Left over this race. But the simple fact is that since 1977, the party in power in the White House has ALWAYS lost the Virginia Governorship. What is important, is how many African-Americans and how many young people actually show up to vote. A low voter turnout in these two groups will be a real red flag to Democrats that their voter turnout efforts HAVE to improve before the 2010 mid-terms.
Republicans need to closely examine this race to see if a Center-Right Republican CAN win elections. McDonnell has run a very good race, claiming the expertise on both taxes and the economy. He has garnered bi-partisan support (including the endorsement of several Democrats) and is generally perceived as a centrist candidate. It should also be noted that since he cut a deal with his only potential primary opponent, he has been able to avoid the pitfall of having to appeal to the Far Right base of the Republican Party….which is why he has been able to manage the perception that he is a centrist. The real question for Republicans is would he have been able to keep that perception if he had to contend with a hard fought primary composed ONLY of the Republican base? Are tea baggers just another name for “spoilers”?
2) THE NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR’S RACE: A real toss-up between Jon Corzine (D) and Chris Christie (R). The latest polls are too close to call and well within the margin of era but Christie (R) has been steadily gaining over the weekend. Corzine’s approval numbers are extremely low and reflect the general state of the Jersey economy. President Obama has campaigned with Corzine but it has done little to increase his polling numbers….the real question regarding the President is will his influence affect voter turnout?
The wildcard in this race is what will be the influence of ultra-conservative Chris Dagget (I). He could be the spoiler for Christie by drawing enough of the far Right Republican vote to allow Corzine a win without reaching the 50% mark.
And as in Virginia, the fact that Republicans win should be expected based upon past history. Since 1989 the party holding the White House has lost the New Jersey gubernatorial race. So Christie winning would not be a great surprise…but Christie losing should sound alarms to Republicans about the danger of splitting your vote and serve as a warning for ideological battles in future primaries.
3) NY-23 Congressional Race: This was the circus act of the election season! It is also the LEAST important race of the day but it is also the one that will have the most far-reaching impact on how the Republicans campaign in 2010.
Dede Scozzafava (R) has already dropped out of the race. She has also endorsed the Democratic candidate, Bill Owens. There was wide spread speculation that for the first time since the 1800’s, NY-23 would go to the Democrat as opposed to the Republican candidate. The reason for this was the independent candidacy of Doug Hoffman who was badly splitting the Republican vote. With Scozzafava out of the race, Hoffman has steadily increased his polling numbers but as of this weekend, 1 in 5 voters are currently undecided. Anything could happen.
The concern for Republicans is what they have had to do to get Hoffman the win. Hoffman is distinguished from other candidates because he can’t vote for himself….because he doesn’t live in the district. He entered the race on the basis of ideology. Local papers have complained that he has no knowledge of local issues but on the up side: he is endorsed by Sarah Palin as a true blue conservative. Scozzafava was a moderate Republican who supports gay marriage and abortion rights. Dirty campaign tactics convinced many voters that she was endorsed by ACORN and the money to fight her came from all over the country. Seriously, 90% of Hoffman’s money came from sources outside of NY-23. Tea Party supporters have been coming in from all over the country to target a door-to-door “Get Out the Vote” campaign. The question if it works is are there enough members of the Tea Party to replicate this same high intensity campaign in all districts across the country as opposed to just one in 2010. The second important question is will these same tactics work in an area that has NOT voted consistently Republican for 120 years?
4) MAINE’S PROPOSITION 1: This in my mind is THE most important election to watch. It has nothing to do with the economy but instead deals with a social issue. So a bad economy is not going to have any effect on the vote, which should give a better idea of the general mood of the electorate. It puts to a vote as a ballot issue, the repeal of a law signed by the state legislature allowing gay marriage in the state of Maine. If Proposition 1 fails, Democrats can take some solace that as long as the economy and unemployment improve by 2010, they are still in good shape. If Proposition 1 passes, Democrats are going to have to work very hard over the next year to prove to the electorate that they are more than a party of big spenders.
None of these elections are make or break deals for either party. Democrats could lose them all and still come in strong in 2010. The same can be said for Republicans. What will be important is how each side interprets the results and then acts on those interpretations in preparation for 2010. So stop thinking of this as SUPER TUESDAY! It’s really only a mediocre read on how to approach next year’s elections for both sides.
It was a very busy week for losers…so my apologies if I forgot any really special people who have made noteworthy negative contributions to the country’s political discourse!
And fair warning, this week seems heavy laden with contests, dancing cowboys, burnings, threats and even a few witches! It must be Halloween!
First up is a double header! Both the Democratic National Committee and Fox News gets a nod for an ad competition being run by the DNC as a way to promote health care reform. Showing an American flag being sprayed with graffiti IS covered under Free Speech…but that doesn’t mean you are required to make it a finalist in your competition. Didn’t you realize that the negative publicity was a great way to distract from the important issues you are promoting?
And Fox News gets the nod for its’ hypocritical negative coverage of the contest. You can’t call out the DNC for disgracing the flag when you have Glenn Beck doing it not once but twice on your network or when you ignored then President George W. Bush for using a permanent marker to autograph a flag! Talk about people living in glass houses!
The Capital Crossroads Gay Rodeo Association gets labeled LOSER for its’ annual Barn Dance. Held inside a barn, the dance competition featured several young “cowboys” dressed only in chaps. Now this would normally come under the heading of “consenting adults in privacy” BUT the association decided to leave the barn doors open…thus exposing the house across the road to their contest. To advertise your “shortcomings” to children during a time when you are lobbying for the repeal of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” or the “Defense of Marriage Act” is probably not a wise move!
The Christian Broadcasting Network attempted to get into the Halloween spirit on its website by scaring us all with the assertion of Kimberly Daniels that Halloween candy purchased in stores has been prayed over by witches and is responsible for sending “curses” to children everywhere!
Here’s our first ever TRIPLE hit! NorthJersey.com, a LaRouche political action committee and an unknown health care reform supporter all earn the title of LOSER OF THE WEEK! Apparently the LaRouche people were protesting with signs showing Obama as Hitler (for which they get named loser)! They were showered with purple paint thrown on them by an unknown health care supporter (for which she gets the award). Liberals need to remember that Freedom Of Speech encompasses distasteful speech as well as speech you agree with. And NorthJersey.com (a local newspaper) gets the title for originally reporting that instead of the conservative nutcase organization LaRouche, the Hitler signs were being held by members of La Roche Pharmaceuticals. Way to fact check, NorthJersey.com!
Lou Dobbs wins mention for his assertion on his radio show on Monday and with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Thursday that his wife had been shot at because of his anti-immigration stance. When real journalists double checked the facts they found the bullet “shot at his wife” had actually hit the apex of his house and FAILED to penetrate his vinyl siding, falling to the ground next to his wife. Since he lives in a rural area and it was the middle of hunting season, New Jersey police seem more inclined to label this as a hunting incident rather than an attempted murder! Dobbs gets a second mention for insisting that when the incident happened it was NOT hunting season…a fact disputed by the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife. And you think they would know!
Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) gets the award for his decision to support a Republican filibuster of any Health Care Reform Bill that includes a public option. This is makes him a REALLY BIG LOSER because in 1994 he labeled the filibuster a “dinosaur” that was “a symbol of what ails Washington”. Hope you’re not planning on staying Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee for long, Joe!
Dave Leach (an anti-abortion activist) promised an on-line auction designed to raise money to support Scott Roeder (accused of killing Dr. Tiller). Items to be auctioned include an Army of God manual, a prison cookbook (check out the cheesecake recipe) and an autographed bullhorn. Kudos to e-bay auctions for refusing to host this sick idea!
Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fl) earns notice for referring to Linda Robertson as a “K Street Whore”. Way to show some class, Congressman!
And finally, Randall Terry of Operation Rescue has started a new contest…..the Harry Reid & Nancy Pelosi “Burn in Hell” contest. Submit a video showing these Democratic leaders roasting in a Dante-like inferno and win a prize! So much for that old biblical adage about “Love thy neighbor”!
It's All Up to Hoffman Now
From The Business and Media Institute:
Every time the White House has a new enemy, left-wing Web-based media outlets take up the cause to defend the Obama administration.
Earlier this year when CNBC personalities criticized the Obama administration, the Huffington Post and other components of the left-wing noise machine watched every word said on the financial network an effort that has since petered out. The Huffington Post also asked readers to supply reports to undermine the credibility of the tea party protests that were critical of the Obama administration.
So it should come as no surprise that the Huffington Post is making a call for all hands on deck to aid the White House with its latest feud with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Huffington Post now wants to know who gives money to the Chamber of Commerce.
“Huffington Post wants to find out more about the Chamber's members help us learn more about who is funding the Chamber by telling us what you know,” an Oct. 26 story on HuffingtonPost.com said. “Though their funding comes from membership dues, those are based on size so larger companies end up contributing most of the Chamber's revenue. These amounts are not made public and HuffPo is wondering whether any companies have adjusted their level of support recently? Send us your tips at tips@huffingtonpost.com.”
...The Huffington Post alleged the Chamber has been too secretive by refusing to disclose its donors. However, they have been able to point out associations with a number of corporations based on who sits on the Chamber’s board of directors.
...Why would The Huffington Post want to know who gives money to the Chamber? Perhaps they want to know to try to engineer some sort of boycott against its members, as the left has done with Fox News Channel’s Glenn Beck to retaliate against a message they may disagree with.
Who's giving money to the Chamber of Commerce? I have a better question: Who's funding the Huffington Post?
Some of it's public information and some of it isn't. But, isn't it time we found out?
Who is putting money into the Huffington Post? Are they actually getting their money back or are there companies using investor dollars to help the Left? Are there companies you've invested in using your money to prop up the Huffington Post? Are there companies that might respond to a conservative boycott? What about the advertisers? Why is a company like Virgin America advertising on the Huffington Post? I guess they're sending a message: We don't want conservatives to use our airline. What about their other advertisers? Who are they? Do they need conservative customers, too? How much money is Arianna Huffington making? What about her staffers? Who's getting paid and who isn't at the HuffPo?
Let's get answers to these questions. I had a buddy at a prominent think tank asking about this today. I'm sure Fox News would love to know. How about talk radio? Don't you think some of the hosts out there would love to be able to give this information to their listeners?
If you're a blogger and you have any research, send it to John Hawkins at Rightwingnews.com. If you just happen to know some information, forward it on over. Tell him what you know and let's see where it takes us.
If Deliriousman and our resident King have anything further to bash the Conservative Right about, please do tell, because if this is how the Left wants the game to be played I'm more than willing to put on my cleats. I wonder if Mr. David has the balls to promote similar comedy about Allah. My guess is he's just a little chick $hit. So please do tell oh great GM, just how low does Rush have to stoop to match his Left winged counterparts?
But, hey, this can't be news, just "opinion", because Fox is the only major media outlet reporting it, so far. Guess all the others media outlets are chicken $hits too.
I've got a bladder full just waiting for Nancy, Harry, Barney, Jesse, Al and Barack.
Ha, ha, ha, wonder if HBO will televise that!!!
In his latest column, John Hawkins at Townhall writes, 5 Messages for 'Elite' Republicans. Here's an excerpt from the column:
Conservatives are sick and tired of being taken for granted, misrepresented, and talked down to by the same "elite" Republicans in Washington who hopelessly screwed everything up during the Bush years.
Everybody knows exactly whom we're talking about here. The same snobby, elitist, stuffed shirt, squishy, poll-obsessed Country Club Republicans who went to D.C., forgot who put them there, wasted the incredible opportunity they had to change this country for the better, and are now pointing the finger at everyone except themselves for their mistakes.
Here are five messages for those people:
We're not going back to the Bush years: Conservatives are sick and tired of hearing Republicans talk about conservatism to get our support and then watching them immediately move to the center once they get elected.
Stop making promises to us that you don't intend to keep. Don't tell us how fiscally conservative you are and then vote for the TARP Program. Don't talk about limited government and then support big government programs. Don't tell us you care about the rule of law and then support amnesty.
We expect you to govern the way you campaign when you need our support. If you don't do it, we're going to make sure you catch hell for it.
You can read it all here.
I of course concur on all counts. Conservatives have been getting the finger from The republican party for years now.
The largest American voting block is not willing to take anymore from the likes of these elitists who claim to be Conservatives when asking for your votes. Newt? John McCain? and the rest of you RINO's? Are you listening?
I know that I'm not the first to make this argument. I know that I won't be the last. The argument started long ago but it came to the forefront during the months prior to the 2008 general election.
The Republican Party, as we know it, is dead. The party died because it tried to build a "tent too big". I am not a Republican. I am a Conservative Independent. Newt Gingrich is a Republican. Newt is trying to make an argument that supporting Dede Scozafava (a Republican) who has endorsements from ACORN and others in the Liberal establishment is better than supporting Doug Hoffman who is a Conservative Independant running for New York's 23rd Congressional district. Nuts to Newt! I used to have a lot of respect for Newt but he has shown himself to be another "RINO" (Republican In Name Only).
Lindsay Graham is another RINO. The Republican Party is full of them. They try to be moderate Liberals in order to gain favor with Liberal voters.
John McCain lost the Presidency because he wasn't Conservative enough. Many Conservatives voted for Bob Barr of the Libertarian Party, abstained from voting or voted for another 3rd party candidate because they didn't like the Liberal leaning McCain.
The Governor's races in New Jersey and Virginia and the race for New York's 23rd district are not only referendums on the Obama Presidency. They are also referendums on the Republican Party.
I have written to Michael Steele, RNC Chairman, and I have told him that the money I have to contribute is going to individual candidates and NOT to the RNC. I don't want my money to back another candidate like Olympia Snowe or Lindasy Graham. I want Conservative candidates in office - not Liberal lites. Many others are doing the same thing and we are coordinating our efforts to elect candidates that make sense.
The Republican Party CAN be resurrected. It will take a lot of work but if they don't come around they can remain dead and the money will go elsewhere!
My first reaction is: SO WHAT!
My next reaction is to say: If no one turns a buck, no taxes get paid, NO government programs are possible, no one has a job and we all live in abject poverty.
Does that sound good to anyone?
We have a far Left, fringe lunatic in the White House who believes that profit is bad. He has a whole cadre of other far Left, fringe lunatics up there in the asylum with him and they all believe that profit is a dirty word and they want to make sure that no one has much chance to make any.
Far left or far right; at least the people on those ends of the spectrum believe passionately in something. The half a$$ed ones in the middle don't know what they believe. We have examples right here on this site. JohnKJR and I have both been ridiculed (at least that was the intent) as far right. For my part I accept that and I wear it as a badge of honor. I can't speak for JohnKJR but my guess is that he feels the same way I do.
We have people on this site who believe that they are "Middle of the road" (I have my doubts) One says he owns a business and claims to be an Obamanite and the other says that she and her husband are "very comfortable" financially. How in the hell can you posssibly support Obama and his cohorts if you own a business (he wants your profits) or consider yourself "very comfortable" financially (Nancy Pelosi wants your 401K) and support this gibbering idiot. I just can't see someone in those positions being allied with those idiots in Detroit who lined up for hours to get "Obama money" AND DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE THE MONEY WILL COME FROM!
We have at least one admittedly far, fringe Leftist on here. I don't agree with him most of the time but I do have to admire him because he stands for something passionately.
Some accuse others of paranoia. The Jews in 1930s Germany should have been more paranoid. Neville Chamberlain should have been more paranoid. FDR should have been more paranoid. The Poles should have been more paranoid. Those who wish to sing a sweet, soft lullaby to you may just be helping you to enter the land of nod permanently.
So, the next time one of you wants to call me a profit and business loving, paranoid, far Right, fringe, Flag draped Conservative go right ahead I accept it as a compliment. I do believe in the exceptional nature and the possibility of greatness inherent in the United State of America.
PRINCETON, NJ -- Conservatives continue to outnumber moderates and liberals in the American populace in 2009, confirming a finding that Gallup first noted in June. Forty percent of Americans describe their political views as conservative, 36% as moderate, and 20% as liberal. This marks a shift from 2005 through 2008, when moderates were tied with conservatives as the most prevalent group.

The 2009 data are based on 16 separate Gallup surveys conducted from January through September, encompassing more than 5,000 national adults per quarter. Conservatives have been the dominant ideological group each quarter, with between 39% and 41% of Americans identifying themselves as either "very conservative" or "conservative." Between 35% and 37% of Americans call themselves "moderate," while the percentage calling themselves "very liberal" or "liberal" has consistently registered between 20% and 21% -- making liberals the smallest of the three groups.

Independents Inch to the Right
Changes among political independents appear to be the main reason the percentage of conservatives has increased nationally over the past year: the 35% of independents describing their views as conservative in 2009 is up from 29% in 2008. By contrast, among Republicans and Democrats, the percentage who are "conservative" has increased by one point each.
As is typical in recent years, Republicans are far more unified in their political outlook than are either independents or Democrats. While 72% of Republicans in 2009 call their views conservative, independents are closely split between the moderate and conservative labels (43% and 35%, respectively). Democrats are about evenly divided between moderates (39%) and liberals (37%).

Americans Also Moving Right on Some Issues
In addition to the increase in conservatism on this general ideology measure, Gallup finds higher percentages of Americans expressing conservative views on several specific issues in 2009 than in 2008.
Gallup has not recorded heightened conservatism on all major social and political views held by Americans. For instance, attitudes on the death penalty, gay marriage, the Iraq war, and Afghanistan have stayed about the same since 2008. However, there are no major examples of U.S. public opinion becoming more liberal in the past year. (Gallup's annual trends on healthcare will be updated in November, so those attitudes are not included in this review.)
The conservative shifts discussed here result as much from changes in political independents' views as from changes in Republicans' views. Democrats' views, by contrast, have generally changed only slightly -- either to the conservative or liberal side -- with two exceptions: Gallup finds greater movement in Democrats' views of abortion, which have become more liberal, and their views of labor unions, which have become more conservative.

Bottom Line
Americans are more likely to consider themselves conservative this year than they were in 2008, resulting in conservatives -- now 40% of the American public -- outnumbering moderates for the first time since 2004. While Gallup first documented this trend in June, the finding has been sustained through the third quarter.
Conservatism is most prevalent among Republicans. However, the overall increase in this ideological stance since 2008 comes largely from political independents, among whom 35% say they are conservatives thus far in 2009 -- compared with 29% last year. Independents have also become more conservative on a number of specific policy issues, including government and union power, the role of government relative to promoting values, gun laws, immigration, global warming, and abortion. Republicans, most of whom considered themselves ideologically conservative in 2008, have also grown more conservative on several of these issues this year, while less change is seen among Democrats.
All of this has potentially important implications at the ballot box, particularly for the 2010 midterm elections. The question is whether increased conservatism, particularly among independents, will translate into heightened support for Republican candidates. Right now, it appears it may. Although Gallup polling continues to show the Democratic Party leading the Republican Party in Americans' party identification, that lead has been narrowing since the beginning of the year and now stands at six points, the smallest since 2005. According to Gallup Managing Editor Jeff Jones, "the Democratic-Republican gap is narrowing because more independents now say they lean to the Republican Party." That trend aligns with the recent changes in how independents perceive their own ideology and where they stand on some key issues.
Not since the Nixon administration.
Barack's Enemies List

Sorry to disillusion those of you who are still in denial about President Barack Obama's true socialistic and dictatorial nature, but this guy's militancy against his perceived enemies puts Richard Nixon's White House to shame. His war on Fox News is just his latest salvo.
Obama's perceived enemies are all those who have the temerity not to roll over for his extreme agenda. They all must be demonized, marginalized and silenced by a president who has turned the Oval Office into a glorified street organizing headquarters to attack his opponents. Indeed, this self-described uniter is the most divisive president in memory, and his uncontrollable ego can't countenance legitimate dissent.
Consider:
--He has smeared medical doctors with reckless charges that they administer unnecessary courses of treatment for profit, e.g., tonsillectomies and limb amputations.
--He publicly berated Chrysler's senior creditors as a "small group of speculators" who "endanger Chrysler's future by refusing to sacrifice like everyone else," merely because they wouldn't acquiesce to his demands and insisted on asserting their contractual rights.
--He has demonized "big oil" and other energy producers, free market capitalists, corporate executives, pharmaceutical companies, Republicans who oppose his health care plan as dishonest and partisan, the wealthy, municipal policemen who dared arrest his Ivy League professor friend for disturbing the peace, pro-lifers, global warming skeptics, the CIA, the military, the best health care system in the world, and George W. Bush every time he needs cover for the inevitably negative consequences of his policies.
--He uses his White House blog to attack his political opponents.
--He condemned opponents of amnesty for illegal aliens as "demagogues."
--He foreshadowed his true nature in the campaign with his spontaneous denunciation of small-town Americans as bitterly clinging to their guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them.
--His administration has likened "tea party" protestors to an "angry mob" and "potential terrorists." His adviser David Axelrod has said they "are not in the mainstream and not in the majority" and represent "the angriest and most strident voices."
--In reference to opponents of his health care scheme, he said in a speech to a joint session of Congress, "I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it's better politics to kill this plan than improve it." He also said: "I don't want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking. I want them just to get out of the way so (Democrats) can clean up the mess." And this: "If you misrepresent what is in this plan, we will call you out."
--He has targeted and vilified the entire insurance industry for daring to oppose his plan, describing them as "those who would bend the truth -- or break it -- to score political points and stop our progress as a country," and accusing them of "filling the airwaves with deceptive and dishonest ads ... designed to mislead the American people." Even the liberal New York Times acknowledged Obama's use of "unusually harsh terms" in attacking the industry as being "interested only in preserving their own 'profits and bonuses.'" And in a true Stalinesque intimidation move, he is threatening to repeal the industry's antitrust exemption.
--He has abused the office of the presidency to personally attack Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and conservative talk radio in general. As we speak, his "czars" are devising schemes to shut down that very medium.
--Now he has launched an orchestrated attack against the only television network that makes a sincere effort at offering balance, Fox News Channel, in an attempt to isolate, demonize and delegitimize the organization because it won't follow suit and join the state-run media. The administration is vacillating between boycotting and allowing some administration officials to appear on the network. Obama singled Fox out as "entirely devoted to attacking my administration." Rahm Emanuel said it's "not a news organization so much as it has a perspective." David Axelrod said, "It's really not news; it's pushing a point of view." Axelrod implored ABC's George Stephanopoulos and his network "not to treat (Fox) as a news organization." White House communications director Anita Dunn, who has bragged about her success at controlling the media, said Fox is "like a wing of the Republican Party" that "spouts Republican talking points."
The common denominator of all these vicious White House attacks is that their targets are those who oppose the administration's agenda. Instead of selling its agenda the old-fashioned way -- by convincing the unconvinced -- it attacks those who dare to articulate and air the opposing point of view. This is a totalitarian, bullying administration, which is revealing its heightened state of panic and desperation over the public's growing awareness of the dangerousness of its policy prescriptions for America.

Not too long ago I posted a blog about Robert Reich who is President Obama's Economic Advisor. I am reposting a clip of Mr. Reich speaking about what "an honest Presidential candidate would say" here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IT7Y0TOBuG4.
In this clip Mr. Reich suggests that one way to solve our Health Care dilemma is to withhold advanced medical technology and services from the elderly. The elderly, of course, are mostly people who have worked hard all of their lives to build this country and to raise and educate families. What a sad thing for an advisor to an American President to suggest! Has our nation sunk so low?
I have an alternative proposal. How about if we withhold advanced medical technology and services from our non-productive citizens? After all, they would live longer and demand more services over their lifespan than the elderly would. I'm NOT talking about people who cannot be productive and are physically or mentally disabled. I'm talking about people who refuse to do more than draw breath and become burdens on society. Those who won't work and who CHOOSE to be burdens on society.
To those who embrace Mr. Reich's philosophy - How does that grab you? Do you agree with that? If a Conservative President's Economic Advisor suggested that approach would you embrace him? Why or why not?
I have to admit that I've been laughing for the past two days over a comment left by Genoiusman, (a.k.a. Deliriousman), on my post, Open and Transparent; ha, ha, ha. Seems my "avitar" has gotten under his skin
. (Thank goodness conversative blogger Rosco and his avitar aren't around any more for Deliriousman to see!!!) So, I thought I'd do a little research, cuttting and pasting to perpetuate my new found laughter, since laughter is good for one's health. Following are numerous comments from Deliriousman, and the posts they are from are underlined for your reference.
A couple of thoughts: First, does anyone on the Left, or Left of center, really embrace this type of 'off subject' ranting? Second, recently a new conservative blogger (SOTAR) posted a ranting, name calling post which I and others on the right commented back that this was no way to introduce one's self. Third, in all fairness to Deliriousman, I did find two comments that actually made coherent sense and were 'on topic', yea.
So, let's have a little fun/humor and comment on Deliriousman's comments. Feel free to hammer away at me too for posting this, JUST LEAVE MY AVITAR OUT OF THIS
· JDog, if you want transparancy then take off those damn shades and let us look into your eyes. You seem very well read for a 6 month old, but then I guess just like listening to spanish tapes in your sleep since birth to get a jump start on the other kids, your parents must be playing Limbaugh, Beck, and Hannity tapes while your cute little bald headed snotty nosed ass goes to bed...sweet dreams. – Deliriousman - Open & Transparent; ha, ha, ha.
1) judgmental
2) justified

If yes, I wonder what your connection is to the liking of food that is directly related to a country that is communist.
Are you a Mao enthusiast? – Deliriousman – Obama’s Anita Dunn Hates Fox News
· Does your media bias and inflated reporting include those whom call Fox News home?
Or do you argue that only Fox News has a real "unbiased" ability to report all the news?
I am guessing Beck, Limbaugh, and Hannity are your idea of the best investigative reporters and bring honesty and integrity to the news reporting business. Deliriousman – Is The Sky Really Falling?
· You have a valid point john, we need to send someone from the media to check out the lack of coverage on this most important story. The lack of its reporting has denied the American people the chance to make informed, intelligent decisions about how and where their government is being corrupted by the Communists.
So that there will be uncorruptable, unargueable, and unimpeachable reporting, that will cover only the facts, without predjudice; I have personally sent an email request to both Limbaugh and Beck. It is recognised throughout the Western world that their personal type of investigate journalism will produce a story that is, of course, without contempt or falsehood.
I only hope that these men of integrity in the journalistic community, are willing to take on such an important assignment. I dont have any recollection of them actually doing stories from outside of their respective studios, but I admit I dont watch all their stories. I have been seen watching corrupted news networks where the anchors and reporters actually appear out in the world or at events about which they are reporting.
Anyway, guys I agree with you that this needs some investigation, so let us see how good a job of investigative journalism they perform. This is their big chance to show the rest of the world, at least every other news channel on television, why they are all corrupt and dishonest, and of course Fox News isnt.

Does this sound like anybody we know?
"They believe Obama is ruthlessly advancing a 'secret agenda' to bankrupt the United States and dramatically expand government control to an extent nothing short of socialism,"
How about this?
"Conservative Republicans passionately believe that they represent a group of people who have been targeted by a popular culture and set of liberal elites - embodied in the liberal mainstream media - that mock their values and are actively working to advance the downfall of the things that matter most to them in their lives - their faith, their families, their country, and their freedom."
Or this?
"While these voters are disdainful of a Republican Party they view to have failed in its mission, they overwhelmingly view a successful Obama presidency as the destruction of this country's founding principles and are committed to seeing the president fail,"
These statements come from a recent report on beliefs prevalent in the conservative base of the Republican Party released by Democracy Corps, a consulting & polling group headed by James Carville. Not exactly the most unbiased of sources to examine the GOP base, but they had a variety of interesting conclusions that are worth looking at.
Much of the report is pretty obvious. The majority of the conservative GOP base sees FOX News as the voice of the party. Their hero is Glenn Beck. The base of the GOP has a decidedly different worldview than either Democrats or Independents.
Some of the report came as a surprise to many. For all of their research, the study found racism to be of little if any influence on the GOP base. Instead it’s all about ideology. A rather blind ideology that asserts that there can be NO compromise of any kind with Democrats…or even moderate Republicans. And that’s the most interesting part of the report. It’s also the scariest part of the report for the GOP because it raises real problems for them in upcoming elections.
You see these people are a significant number of Americans. They represent approximately two out of every three Republican voters. That means if you want to win the nomination of the Republican Party for office, you have to cater to these people. But they represent ONLY 1 out of 5 Americans….and that’s not enough to win a general election. This leaves GOP candidates in the unpleasant position of balancing between the uncompromising beliefs of the radical right and the common sense of the conservative-leaning Independent voter. Any deviation from the beliefs of the base get you vilified with no credit for past performance.
That’s the position Republican Senator Lindsey Graham found himself in at a recent town hall meeting. Sen. Graham is working with Sen. Kerry on a climate bill. This long-time South Carolina conservative has been called “wussy pants”, “girlie-man” and “half-a-sissy” for his bipartisan effort. He has to be concerned that now he will face an expensive and vicious primary battle the next time he runs for his Senate seat.
But most Americans don’t feel this way. The same study that points out that 1 in 5 Americans want Obama to fail also points out that conservative-leaning Independents and swing voters want the President to succeed….regardless of whether they agree with his policies or not. They seem to really believe in “Country First”.
Running a country isn't about ideology. It's about finding pragmatic solutions that work better than any other option. That's the part that both the far right and the far left have trouble with. That's why you see the occasional Democrat at a tea party or hear liberals complain about Obama. But Democracy Corp's report seems to suggest that while most liberals are willing to give a little....the base of the GOP is not willing to budge an inch! It's thier way or the highway for thier elected officials.
So the next time you read comments on this site like:
"That is the stock in trade of the Left. Truth is not the issue. For them the issues are ridicule, sarcasm, ganging up on people or opinions they dislike and trying to shout down the truth. That's how they operate. That's how America came to be in the shape it is in today. Many of us have been cowed and intimidated by these people when they ridicule and intimidate and shout us down. …... Don't let them call you a racist or a moron or an idiot or whatever name becomes popular with them they are the ones with an allergy for the truth. The only racists I know are Liberals who want to enslave people through welfare and dependence on government"
OR
Another example of ridicule and sarcasm! When is nemokc going to realize that it doesn't work anymore? Its a new day. You can't get away with it. Bring on Deliriousman, ladyjean, kingborg and open eyed liberal. I laugh every time I read their idiotic postings
Or:
I see that no one who commented was capable of understanding the message. Think about it retards!
Don’t get too upset! Just smile to yourself at how silly they sound. It's nothing more than the screams of a very vocal minority that is trying to drive their own private agenda by being louder and more obnoxious than anyone else. Keep in mind that there are a lot of people who visit this site and never comment, they just read the blogs and make up their own mind. We may find in the future that people like jstol and johnkjr do more to advance a progressive agenda than anything said by any of the ever increasing number of moderate bloggers on this site.
And if you are one of those silent readers....try logging on and leaving a comment to tell these people that they don't speak for you!
If Obama isn't a Communist why is it everyone he surrounds himself with is a Communist?

A Maoist, now. How wonderful.
Allahpundit on the suicide bomber : Video: Fox-bashing WH mouthpiece names Chairman Mao as her favorite philosopher
...a fun fact about Anita Dunn that oddly doesn’t appear in WaPo’s three-page profile of her today. Don’t bother pounding the table about firing her, though: She’s already on her way out, which is precisely why the White House’s gutless brain trust tasked her with being the attack dog against Fox.Michelle Malkin : Anita Dunn: A corruptocrat flack and a Mao cheerleader
Earlier this week, I spotlighted White House interim communications director and chief Fox-basher Anita Dunn’s career-long commitment to flacking for one of the Beltway’s most entrenched and crooked creatures, Tom Daschle.
I also noted that Dunn is married to Obama thug lawyer Robert Bauer, who tried valiantly to get the DOJ to prosecute conservative critics and punish TV stations for running an ad critical of Obama’s relationship with Weather Underground Bill Ayers.
Add to the mix this fun fact from Glenn Beck…Dunn is a Mao enthusiast.
I signed up on this site to blog about politics because I have an interest in the subject. I also blog on several other sites. Anyone who reads these blogs regularly knows that I'm an Independent Conservative which means, basically, that I am an outcast in both major parties because I don't hold to any "party line". I might be your friend on an issue regarding the environment because I do believe in Conservation (although I am not a tree-hugger or an eco-freak). I might be your friend on a gun rights issue because I believe that our Constitution gives us the unequivocal right to own one (I don't own one myself). I might be your friend on a pro-choice issue because, although I believe abortion to be the wrong choice, I also believe that each woman should be allowed to make her own choice whether it is a good or bad choice. She will have to answer to her Creator on that day she will surely face. I might be your friend on a church/state issue. I believe that the Constitution gives us all the right to freely practice our religion it has no right to jam it down your throat. That means that we all have the right to practice or not to practice. It also means that you CAN'T stop me from practicing if I wish.
In short, I'm part of the majority who decide elections in this country. The Democrats don't and the Republicans don't. The Liberals don't and the Conservatives don't.
Now, back to the political blogging. I have blogged for candidates before but not on their team. You can't find that in my history wherever you look. It's not there. Last night I found that a blogger on this site HAD been a member of Team Obama or whatever it's name changes to from day to day. I had log accused him of being a paid Obama Blogger and I wrote a blog about it with links to his blogs. At this point I can't prove that he has been paid for blogging for Obama because a payslip didn't come attached to the blogs. I do know that Obama has paid bloggers. I know that they show up at all of our Tea Parties and that they blog afterwards and they usually distort the truth about the rallies just like the blogger on this site did when the tour leading up to the DC rally on 9/12 was taking place. Ridicule is their stock in trade.
It really doesn't make any difference whether this blogger is paid or not. He is a professional who has lent his skills, such as they are, to Obama's ongoing campaign. If he were a brawny person he might be cracking heads in St. Louis for SEIU.
The purple shirts are here. The propagandists are here. The ideological bloggers are here. The media is complicit in fraud and corruption on a massive scale. How far behind can the brownshirts be?
Convince me Liberal Progressives. It's going to take more than ridicule, intimidation and a BS story to do that for me or for the majority of Americans. Even the people who voted for Obama are beginning to question what he is doing.
