For those of you who have not been following this, Ron Paul has introduced legislation to mandate an "audit" of the Federal Reserve Bank. In typical Congressional fashion, despite Congressman Paul's bill having over 300 sponsors, it will not be voted on. Nope, instead, a bill put forth by Barney Frank to "BAN" audits of the Federal Reserve will be voted on. So, I guess we could say in a backwards sense, a defeat of the Frank bill will lead to an affirmation of the Paul bill.
Remember, this evolved from late 2008 when Bernake & Paulson committed the entire balance sheet of the Fed to stabilize the markets. Congress blinked and sneered as it became evident that a "fourth" entity had control of taxpayers’ money and could act without Congressional approval. Um, there are no such provisions in the Constitution for this!
So the real question about these two identical yet competing bills is, What's worse, Congress involved in monetary policy decisions or a fourth, unelected branch of Government usurping powers granted only to Congress?
If I were Frank or Bernake, I'd be throwing all of my political weight to prevent any audit of the Fed... the devil will be in the details
There are 535 members of Congress, and Paul has 300 sponsors. Guess who my money is on
Al Gore is the most visible General in the War on Global Warming which is now the War on Climate Change. My Gore has profited from his movie "An Inconvenient Truth", he has testified before our Congress and has generally spent his years since leaving the Vice-Presidency trying to scare the hell out of the American People in particular and the world in general with his crackpot theories and the earth's climate. The theory has been debunked by a number of scientists and the earth is now cooling (warming and cooling is part of a natural cycle) hence the change to "War on Climate Change". Gore would have you believe that the climate should not change just as environmentalists would have you believe that species should never become extinct even though new species have been coming in and old ones becom extinct throughout the earth's history but that's another story.
There is, for Mr. Gore, good reason to create and maintain this hysteria: there is lots of money in it for him. Mr Gore was worth perhaps 2 million when he left office in 2001. Today he is worth far more. The link to the story is here:
I have to laugh out loud when I think of how the Left has embraced this man and his self serving theory. The poor people who believe all of this are mostly genuine in their concern for the earth but they and or Congress have been suckered by one of history's biggest charlatans. The sad part of this is that ALL of the American People may end up paying for this trickery.
Just a quick update on a post I did a few weeks ago entitled PROFITING ON PARANOIA. It was a discussion on people who deliberately inflame people on the Right for profit. One of the many examples that I used was a program promoted on World Net Daily. It offered to send each member of Congress a “pink slip” with your name & address on it to symbolize the “pink slip” you would give them in the next election if they raised taxes, vote for Health Care Reform, etc.
And yesterday was THE day! I am happy to report that the WND event did in fact deliver to all 535 members of Congress “pink slips”. A total of 5 million slips were delivered by box divided up between each member’s office.
Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) was overjoyed at the 5,000,000 slips! She said, “We can't say that we didn't know where the hearts of the American people are.”
Sounds REALLY impressive….until you do the math! Five million slips divided by 535 members of Congress equals approximately 9,346 hearts of the American people. And in a country of 308 million….that’s about 0.00003% of the population.
Still for a “grass roots” protest, 9,000 people isn’t a really bad number, it’s just not as impressive as FIVE MILLION sounds.
But you want to know a number that does sound really good? Try $279,912.70! That’s the amount of money that those 9,346 people paid World Net Daily at $29.95 each to print & deliver the “pink slips”. Over a quarter of a million dollars to make a bulk delivery of 10,000 reams of pink paper to Capital Hill.
Somebody laughed all the way to the bank!
Soldiers die in Afghanistan while President dithers over additional troops.
Unemployment at 10.2% and Congress contemplates job killing Cap and Trade and amnesty for ILLEGAL aliens.
Union enhancing Health Care Reform blocks real reform for sales across state lines and tort reform.
Andy Stern, SEIU President and Lobbyist for SEIU visits White House 22 times while White House ignores the American people. (During the campaign Obama promised that he would eliminate lobbyists influence).
Obama wants Congress to pass business killing "Card Check" bill.
This President and Democrat Congress are considering everything BUT putting Americans back to work. Theirs is a purely political agenda which does not consider the needs of the American People at all.
The idea that Republicans were the party that brought about the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is being thrown around on the web. At first, I thought this was too silly to spend much time on. But it seems to be a growing tall tale of conservative goodness! Many websites seem to have taken this as a theme of discussion. In reality it is nothing more than history told with a bias. (Which happens frequently, I might add.) The continuing advancement of this particular bit of revisionism needs to be addressed before the myth becomes a psuedo-reality.
Recently on this site, jstol regurgitated these conservative talking points by stating:
"The Liberal wing of the Democrat party is the party of segregation. To deny this is to deny history.
The Democrat Party was responsible for supporting slavery. It took a Republican, Abraham Linclon, to end slavery.
The Democrat Party Party, in the form of the Southern Democrats (Dixiecrats), was responsible for prolonging segregation. It took action on the part of Republicans in Congress to push the legislation through in 1964 to end segregation and promote civil rights."
Now members of a Black Republican group are putting out bill boards proclaiming that Martin Luther King was a Republican.
In fairness, part of this is true. Some 150 years ago, the Democrats were in part responsible for supporting slavery...although the main issue was not slavery per se, but the issue of state's rights versus the powers of the Federal government. (Back then it was the Democrats who were TEA PARTY members.) But jstol is correct that it took Abraham Lincoln to end slavery and it is correct that Lincoln was a Republican. It is also true that "Dixiecrats" were responsible for prolonging the fight for desegregation in the 60's. Fifty-four days were spent in filibuster with Sen. Byrd (D-WVA) speaking for a record-breaking 14 hours and 13 minutes to keep the Civil Rights Act from being passed. But that's only part of the story. The reality is that this was not a Democrat vs Republican fight....it was a North vs South fight with a bi-partisan effort made by both sides of the struggle. And at that time in our history, most Southerners voted Democratic BECAUSE the Republicans WERE the party of Lincoln.
Here are the facts: On June 11, 1963, President John F. Kennedy asked for legislation from Congress "giving all Americans the right to be served in facilities which are open to the public—hotels, restaurants, theaters, retail stores, and similar establishments," as well as "greater protection for the right to vote." Eight days later he sent a proposed bill to Congress to be voted upon. It was considered by Civil Rights advocates as a step in the right direction but overall too weak in enforcement to be completely effective.
Southern legislators from both sides of the aisle then began to do everything possible to either slow passage of the bill or to kill it outright. During the time that the bill was stuck in various committees, President Kennedy was assassinated. At which point, Lyndon Johnson used both his extensive background in legislative politics and the presidential "bully pulpit" to rally support for the bill. At this time, Democrats held majorities in both houses of Congress. So it is true that you can say that Democrats tried to kill The Civil Rights Act. Because a lot of Southern Democrats who were chairmen of specific committees did try to do so. But to do so, you must ignore Lyndon Johnson's efforts, nor can you then claim that it was Republicans who were responsible for this piece of legislation. The final votes on the bill tell the true tale.
The original House bill passed by a vote of 290 to 130. Of those votes, Democrats voted 152 to 96 in support of passage and Republicans voted 138 to 34 in support. The Senate version passed by a vote of 73 to 27. Of which, Democrats voted 46 to 21 to support the bill and Republicans voted 27 to 6 in support.
Now where these numbers get interesting is when you look at the vote from the standpoint of Northern legislators versus the votes of Southern legislators (combining both parties.) In the House, Southern Democrats voted 7 to 87 against the Bill and Southern Republicans voted 0-10 against it. (In other words, NOT A SINGLE SOUTHERN REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN SUPPORTED THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT.) SOUTHERN CONGRESSMEN VOTED 7 TO 97 AGAINST THE BILL. Northern Democrats voted 145 to 9 in support of the bill while Northern Republicans voted 138 to 24 in support. NORTHERN CONGRESSMEN VOTED 283 TO 33 IN SUPPORT OF THE BILL.
While in the Senate, Southern Democrats voted 1 to 20 AGAINST the bill, while the lone Southern Republican also voted against the bill. Northern Democratic Senators voted 45 to 1 in favor of the bill while Northern Republicans were a little less enthusiastic in support of Civil Rights, they voted 27 to 5 in favor of the bill. FINAL TOTALS: SOUTHERN SENATORS VOTED 1 TO 21 AGAINST THE BILL AND NORTHERN SENATORS VOTED 72 TO 6 IN SUPPORT.
So when you examine the numbers, it becomes clear that while Democrats were obviously divided by region on this vote, so were Republicans. And it is a lie of history to try to claim that Democrats were the "Party of Segregation".
And as to Martin Luther King being a Republican. That's true. Martin Luther King SR. was a registered Republican but his son, Martin Luther King JR, never claimed ANY party affiliation. And if you grew up in the early 80's during the debate for establishment of a Martin Luther King Holiday, you know that Republicans then were not only NOT claiming MLK as one of their own....they were objecting to the establishment of the holiday altogether. Why? Because Republicans said at that time that Martin Luther King, Jr WAS A COMMUNIST! (And now he's one of them!)
And that's why it's so important to read history rather than just listen to regurgitated talking points!
STALIN, SAVIOR OR HANGMAN OF THE SECOND SPANISH REPUBLIC
One of the controversial issues of the Spanish Civil War, is the role played by the Soviet Union during the 3 years-long struggle ¿served the Stalin regime to the Republican cause, or conversely, you can say it was another of his executioners?, we will show the facts and everyone decides where final positioning andalusia.
Soviet aid to the Republican side in the military, was a ball of oxygen, given the international circumstances existing after the creation of the Committee of London, an organization created at the request of France to control the foreign intervention in Spain, which is joined 27 countries, among which are the major democratic powers of Europe at that time Great Britain and France.
This committee did not ever end, because from the beginning Germany, Italy and Portugal helped the rebels and the Republican side received support mainly from Russia, Mexico and France. The latter sold arms to the Republicans until they created the Committee of London. Also the United States helped the two sides since the rebels were selling gasoline and Republicans are selling aircraft, with the exception of Mexico and the United States, all were part of the Committee of London.
However, Soviet aid was conditional on the Republican side from the outset, the political aspect, because of the war in Russia against opponents of the Stalin regime, the persecution of the Trotskyist or those who leave the Stalinist doctrine that remained dormant in the XV Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union CPSU, which expelled the Trotskyists to Zinoviev and Kámenev, they were retracted and were readmitted into the party but did not recover their positions within the CPSU in 1934 with the beginning of the great purge and after the murder of Sergei Kirov, the party were expelled, arrested and forced to admit "moral complicity", after which they were sentenced to different periods of conviction in August 1936 both were sentenced to death in a trial farce. After expelling Trotsky from the party, was deported to Kazakhstan and finally expelled from the USSR. In 1929 until his death, he kept a firm opposition to Stalinism until his assassination in Mexico, August 21, 1940. Under these circumstances, come to Spain Marcel Rosenberg Soviet ambassador, accompanied by a large entourage which included, as head of the Soviet military mission, the former head of military intelligence, General Jan Berzin Soviets alongside other advisers, including Kulik and Goriev and marshals Malinovski and Rokossovki and koniev, Red Army officers who fought under a variety of disguises, including Colonel Lazar Stern, under the alias of General Emilio Kleber, who won fame as Savior of Madrid, or Dimitri Paulov, nicknamed Pablo, the most capable of leaders tanquistas, would become Polish defense minister after the end of World War II.
With regard to the logistical support for the war against the rebels, the Russians gave, according to some authors, in arms:
680 aircraft
331 tanks
1699 pieces of artillery
60 armored cars
450,000 guns
20,486 rifles and light machine guns machine guns
30,000 tons of ammunition
The cost of this military aid was $ 500 million in gold from the time an amount exorbitada for assistance.
Furthermore NKVD agents, led by future defector Alexander Orlov, who arrived in September 1936 to pursue any deviation from the Stalinist doctrine in Republican Spain of acting illegally in the Republican zone during the war and is in the background, a major concern was the influence of Stalin and Trotskyist infiltration in the Spanish Republic, because his victory could have moved him as the guarantor of the Marxist revolution, for this reason NKVD sent agents to Spain to also physically remove the primary recruitment center for the International Brigades (IB) in Paris, the NKVD interrogator to all the volunteers who did not belong to the party and many volunteers were asked passport before entering Spain and then the passports were sent to Moscow by diplomatic pouch. It is known that this procedure took at least 2000 American passport, which then served the NKVD agents to enter illegally in this country.
In Albacete, the basis of Biscay was under the control of the political direction of the Komintern, headed by André Marty, head of the French Executive Committee of the Communist International, who for years had worked for the Soviet military espionage and cooperated proactively in the covert war against the Trotskyism of the NKVD, one can say that Marty was one of the Communists, not Russian most obsessed with the elimination of opponents of Stalinism of any kind came with a large number of officials Komintern including delegates Italian Luigi Longo and Giuseppe de Vittorio, who detest fanaticism Marty. Stalinist but convinced, as the future leader of East Germany, Walter Ulbricht, who directed a unit of the NKVD who Trotskyist located in Biscay from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Marty followed his wake in the bloody and ruthless fighter against a Trotskyist of his colleagues wrote of him:
"For Marty the enemy within the territory was more Republican than the other side of the lines"
Because of his behavior, at the end was called to give explanations to the French Communist leaders in Paris, where he accepted without reservation, having ordered the brigade to shoot 500, stated that he had committed all sorts of crimes and were responsible for espionage Franco.
And that is in fact the Russians, did not cause divisions within the Republican camp, but encouraged it, with its persecution of heretics of Stalinism, in which Republican Spain were at their discretion, and essentially Trotskyist POUM militants.
Differences between Trotskyites and Stalinists in the ways of developing Marxism-Leninism and were reflected in the XIV Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in December 1925, there were two sides of thought, after Lenin's death in January 1924, while Trotsky advocated the theory of permanent revolution, Stalin defended the theory of socialism in one country only. This and the ruthless struggle for power, leading them to become staunch enemies, to accuse the anti-Trotskyist agents, which ended up being the list of enemies of the Russian people after the XV Congress of the CPSU held in 1929 .
In the above context, we can say that when the Spanish Civil War, was the POUM, which did not accept the tenets Stalinism.
The Workers Party of Marxist Unification was founded in 1935, at a crucial moment in the Second Republic by the union of the Spanish Communist Left (ICE), the Bloque Obrero Campesino (BOC).
The ICE was a Trotskyist party in origin, although by this time had broken with these postulates, was founded by Juan Andreu Nin and Andrade, the latter had been personal secretary to Trotsky in Moscow, also part of the Left Opposition who opposed to the rise of Stalin within the CPSU, in 1930 left the Soviet Union.
The BOC was a communist party put on all of Catalonia, its leader was Joaquin Maurin had been leader of the Balearic Communist Federation, a federation of the PCE that territorial split of the party in 1930.
The POUM criticized what I found and totalitarian bureaucratic degeneration of the Russian revolution at the hands of Stalin, was the only party that ordered Processes Moscow, in his paper "La Batalla". Despite being a revolutionary Marxist party, the POUM had multiple internal trends.
Formed part of the Popular Front in the elections of 1936, Joaquin Maurin, general secretary of the POUM, was elected deputy for the Republican Cortes, in his speeches in Parliament claimed that the great danger to the Republic was not the strike or occupation land in the spring of 1936, but the conspiracy was brewing military and right-wing political violence.
When the war, the conflict was surprised Maurin Galicia in organizing the POUM, because in Galicia won the military uprising. This area Republican attempt to escape but was arrested in Jaca and imprisoned under the false name of Maximum Uriarte, every step of the civil war in jail. In 1944 he was tried and sentenced to 30 years in prison, was pardoned in 1946, was exiled to the United States where he died on November 5, 1973.
With the disappearance from the scene of Maurin, Nin became executive secretary of the POUM, he was a staunch defender of the collective revolution developed in Catalonia in 1936 believed that war and revolution were intrinsically linked the July 21, 1936 the CNT and the POUM, along with other political forces in Catalonia, was the Central Committee of Antifascist Militias (CCMA), dissolved in October 1936. He also participated actively in the Catalan institutions, and counselor of justice of the Government until December 1936 when the Catalan government was ousted by the pressures of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE), after which they were agents of Stalinism.
In the events of May 1937, the POUM was part of the anarchists, but in the article by Agustí Gillamón entitled:
"The left of the POUM in May 1937. Militancy and political thought of Josep Rebull "
Deduce that the leadership of the POUM was not in favor of this survey, even so, it assumed that the PCE immediately requested the banning of the POUM. That same month, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Department of the Cheka (INO) Slutski informed the NKVD troops in Spain "All our attention is concentrated in Catalonia and in our relentless fight against the bandits Trotskyists, the POUM and the fascists" . In principle the government of Largo Caballero, tried to resist Soviet pressure, but after his downfall, his successor Juan Negrín less resistant to such attempts, he andalusia POUM.
On June 16, 1937, Andreu Nin, along with other leaders of the POUM as Gorkin Coat or Joseph, were arrested have been discovered among the papers seized from a network of the fifth column of Madrid, which showed the relationship between POUM and a spy for the rebels. These documents were a forgery by the NKVD, to eliminate a political party contrary to Stalinism on June 22 by order of General Orlov acting under the orders of Stalin, was assassinated Andreu Nin, leader of the POUM, after tortured to admit to espionage many members of the POUM soldiers were illegally shot after summary courts-martial, the communities were finally dissolved in August of that year by the Republican Army and then I end up trying to create a Marxist society full . Soon after, another former secretary of Trotsky, Irwin Wolf was kidnapped and murdered by the NKVD in Barcelona.
From this moment, the efforts of Republican war on the side, took a single political and military, which was to fight the rebels, but it was too late, Franco had become leader of the rebels and the Republican ranks there were fears another purge, which created irreconcilable divisions.
On April 1, 1939 the Spanish Civil War ended with the disastrous end to the Republican side, who had been unable cohesion and fight in one direction, but obviously, the question remains without a clear answer really, was the Stalinism, the savior or the Republican side of the executioner, "after reading the above and more, one reaches the inevitable conclusion that the problem of the Republicans were a lot of problems. One of which was that the Soviet aid, as well as being overvalued economically, politically conditioned and we can see clearly, given the behavior of the NKVD or Komintern the pursuit of those who are interested in us, if though the POUM, with the anarcho syndicalist, rose against the republic at a time when it had to be cohesive and combat all in the same direction. It is no less true in the case of the POUM, the organization and was being harassed by the PCE by order of Stalin, as a breakaway party from the Stalinist view of Marxism-Leninism and be closer to the theories of Marxist collectivization would be framed in the third step of a Communist revolution and that is something that even Santiago Carrillo acknowledges in his memoirs, saying:
"Further analysis, less passionate, more objective, has to conclude that harassment against the POUM, the Trotskyite anti fever, had to create a situation of rounding itself to embark on an adventure like that, especially when in Catalonia , an anarcho syndicalist sector was willing to participate in it, disgusted with the policies of their own organization after the entry of the CNT in the government, threatening what they considered the libertarian revolution in Catalonia "
Next sentence Santiago Carrillo in his memoirs:
"This in my opinion, was the negative factor that had the support of the Soviet Union"
It is clear that in general the role played by aid to the Soviet Republic, in my view, was, as I say at the outset, a balloon of oxygen for the military defense of the Republic, the leaders were unable to play it . Furthermore, with the death of Marxism in the Soviet Union, from the moment that Stalin became head of the CPSU, meant that the aid would be conditional to the Republic from the beginning that Stalinism was too preoccupied to remove the dissent and divided rather than united it. The excesses of men like Marty or the murder of Nin, in general the purge within the Republican ranks, we are told that this aid was not anything solid, it should be efficient, and that is that the Stalinist help the Republicans, far to be the necessary impetus to these conditional enormously in political and international recognition has been less andalusia be supported by a regime that many governments, in those days, fearful that Hitler's own, but to be honest, I must say that without this assistance, the republic had not survived and that is why, in this sense we can say today that Soviet aid was a momentary salvation for the Second Spanish Republic.
Health and Republic
Another week goes by and another collection of special people who contribute in a negative manner to the political discourse that fills our lives. With special attention this week to those that make their negative comments in the name of God.
So let’s start with the Rev. Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church who spent the early part of this week protesting in Washington D.C. They held anti-Obama signs, anti-gay signs & anti-abortion signs as they marched outside….SIDWELL FRIENDS SCHOOL, which is attended by the Obama children. The church website posted the following explanation for the site of the protest: “Quakers?! Are you frigging kidding me? You pretend to be all non-violent, and you allow the most bloody, deceitful, evil, murderous bastard and his shemale sidekick to place their satanic spawn within your four walls?" Note to the Westboro Baptists, the verse in the Bible where Jesus says, “Suffer the little children” didn’t mean to make the children suffer by calling them “satanic spawn”! You people are real LOSERS!
Ex-Congressman William Jefferson (D-LA), who brought whole new meaning to the phrase “cold hard cash” was sentenced to 13 years in prison for corruption and is now a 13 year loser (with time off for good behavior)!
Senator David Vitter (R-LA) wins a nod as a loser due to comments by one of the challengers for his Senate seat. “I'm not one to judge someone's sexual activity, but what annoys me is that he's so hard-core "family values," and he puts his wife and kids out there, saying he's a Christian family man. Then he's caught up in a prostitution scandal. He's a hypocrite”, said Stormy Daniels. The porn-star-turned-candidate then went on to point out that if elected, she would be able to avoid sex scandals because all of her sex tapes can be found on the shelves at video stores. You know you’re a loser when a porn star can claim the moral high ground.
The Catholic Church also made my personal list of LOSERS this week. Not because of the church’s influence in getting the Stupak amendment passed; I might not like the legislation but if you support the Right to Life movement, it’s your right to petition your representatives in Congress. However, if you are going to take a stand for the rights of the unborn, you should also be willing to support children AFTER birth as well. For instance, take the case of Nathan Halbach, a 22 year old man who is dying of brain cancer. His mother also has terminal cancer. Nathan’s estranged father is Father Henry Willenborg, a Franciscan priest. When the Church was asked to help pay for medical treatment…they refused! Father Henry was never a “Dad” to Nathan, the least he could do for his son is to petition the Order to help make his son’s death a little easier. But he didn’t. And the Church also weighed in on gay marriage this week in D.C. by promising to stop all charitable work in the city if the D.C. city council passed a gay marriage ordinance. I don’t remember Jesus making everyone take a morality “litmus test” before feeding them bread & fish. I’m sure Jesus would be proud! So for these two actions…I’ve got the Catholic Church on the LOSERS LIST!
Congressman Barney Franks (D-MA) gets a nomination for his comments to a local Fox News reporter. When asked if he was present at the home of his lover in 1997 during a pot bust, he said he was but that he didn’t know the plants were there and since, "I not a great outdoorsman…I would not recognize most plants." Now that may be true, but to put it in those terms leaves you open to a lot of silly news commentary. Like Wolf Blitzer and Lou Dobbs who apparently can identify pot plants by smell and sight! (Who also get a nomination for LOSER because people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.) Congressman, there were a lot of better ways to have phrased your comments than you did! But at least you improved on Bill Clinton’s “I didn’t inhale” line.
Tweeter-extraordinaire, Sarah Palin also gets mention this week. Not for all of the factual inaccuracies found by the AP in your new book, not for your Oprah interview, not even for letting your book tour get upstaged by your daughter’s baby daddy’s “hockey stick”. You get named LOSER because of your crazy assertion that moving the words “In God We Trust” from the front of the coin to the rim of the coin is part of the great Obama conspiracy! The truth is that this change was made by the Bush administration and you are a LOSER when your conspiracy theories are so far out there that even FOX NEWS fact checks you.
Democratic strategist Ted Devine proved to be a loser this week when he responded to threats from various Democratic groups to halt donations to the party in favor of supporting specific candidates. Many people do not want their money to help support Democrats who vote against Health Care Reform. Mr. Devine stated that, “I think it is a very powerful point of influence when you go to people who rely on donations to fund very expensive campaigns and tell them the people they count on won't be there to support them because of their position on a single issue”. Mr. Devine, only a LOSER forgets whose money it is to begin with that supports those “expensive campaigns”. We'll spend it where we want. And if quality reform DOESN’T pass….we’ll need that money for our increasing premiums!
And finally, Tea Party organizers in Danville, VA get listed as LOSERS for their announced plans to burn in effigy, Speaker of the House Pelosi and local representative, Congressman Tom Perriello (D-VA) for their support of health care reform. You can protest all you want…but you cross the line when you start burning people (even in effigy). I know you feel you personally don’t have representation in Congress but the fact remains that more people from your district voted for Perriello than any other candidate. So he IS your representation even if you don’t agree with him. The neat thing about Democracy is that the majority rules! I remember being called unpatriotic and treasonous for having a bumper sticker that read, “Somewhere in Texas there’s a village without it’s idiot”….that bumper sticker seems to pale in comparison to you LOSERS playing with fire.
Whereas the Congress of the Unites States of America with Super Messiah A/K/A "The One" at the helm has declared themselve to be the most powerful body on heaven and earth, able to change the Earth's climate, twist the truth with a little spin, represent the people of the world while neglecting their own citizens I, jstol3, do hereby petition that same august body and it's truther leader to please STOP TIME.
As we are all aware the year 2012 looms large on the horizon of our doomed planet. Predicted by the Mayans, the Egyptians, the Neanderthals, various film and documentary producers the absolute and horrible catastrophes of that year threaten to annhialate untold numbers of obscure species of critters, moonbats, dingbats, and trial attorneys. We know for an absolute certainty that the poles of the Earth will reverse themselves and the rivers will all flood the land and stop the flow of electricity to Al Gore's mansion and ground Air Force One making dinner in New York impossibel for Obammessiah and Michelle.
Please Dear Congress STOP TIME so these catastrophes will be avoided for the sake of the holy snail darter if for no other reason.
Sincerely,
jstol3
The Liberal wing of the Democrat party is the party of segregation. To deny this is to deny history.
The Democrat Party was responsible for supporting slavery. It took a Republican, Abraham Linclon, to end slavery.
The Democrat Party Party, in the form of the Southern Democrats (Dixiecrats), was responsible for prolonging segregation. It took action on the part of Republicans in Congress to push the legislation through in 1964 to end segregation and promote civil rights.
The Democrat Party is STILL the party of segregation. By undermining a significant portion of the population with welfare handouts they have managed to keep many out of the workplace AND out of many neighborhoods because they cannot afford the homes in those neighborhoods. They don't call it segregation but it is segregation nonetheless. It is de facto segregation of a large portion of our population. All one has to do is to look at America's inner cities to realize that this is true.
The answer to ending this de facto segregation in America is job creation not welfare in all of it's many forms. We need to bring industry back to America instead of driving it away. We need to create an environment where business can flourish, where our unemployment drops back to 4% or less. We need to get away from our dependence on foreign energy by tapping our own resources here at home. We need to rebuild America not tear it down and tax what is left to death.
We CAN end this defact segregation and we can have an America where everyone prospers but it won't happen under the current administration because they don't know how to build a prosperous and vibrant economy. Re-distribution of wealth creates nothing and only turns us all a nasty shade of gray.
We currently have a nutball Congress making nutball laws designed to keep us all down to be signed by a nutball President who has no concept of what it means to be an American. Unfortunately this nutball President is still followed by a significant number of nutball people who think that he is the greatest thing sinced sliced bread. He's not and many are deserting him but the numbers of nutballs are still significant.
Not that many years ago we had nutball legislatures in the deep south which enacted nutball laws designed to put and keep people in their place based on race - they were called Jim Crowe laws. Rosa Parks helped bring about the beginning of the end for the southern nutballs when she refused to step to the back of the bus.
Today we have many, many Patriots just like Rosa Parks who aren't going to "step to the back of the bus". Attempt to ridicule them at your own risk because by doing so you dishonor the memory of Rosa Parks, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and many others who fought the good fight for equality based on the content of ones character rather than the color of their skin. They wanted equality and not handouts.
Yes, as the door closes on freedom with the possibility of both the Health Care Reform Bill and the Cap and Trade Bill there is one word to keep uppermost in your mind. That word is REPEAL. Any damage that can be done by this lunatic Congress led by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid can be undone by the act of REPEAL. Keep that in mind as the 2010 elections loom on the horizon.
It will take a lot of work and selecting good candidates but everything that has been done can be undone. This nation can be returned to it's founding principles and freedom can once again ring across the land.
Obama has been in office for 9 months now and our economy continues to falter. Millions are out of work and the number is growing. Unemployment is expected to hit 10% when figures are announced this month and there is no end in sight.
While millions look for work and try to feed their families what is Congress and the President doing?
Congress is trying to put together an amnesty bill which would allow ILLEGAL aliens to take even more American jobs.
Obama dithers over troop levels in Afghanistan thereby putting the troops that are already there in grave danger.
Congress is trying to get a Cap and Trade bill passed which will cost even more jobs and further slow our economy.
The President is trying to limit salaries in the banking industry and thereby causing the best people in the industry to leave, causing credit lines to dry up and cost even more jobs.
Congress is trying to pass a Health Care bill which will cause many doctors and nurses to go somewhere else. The cost of the bill will send the economy into huper-inflation and will cost even more jobs (how do the unemployed pay for even the cheapest Health Care plan?).
What are the President and the Congress doing for you? Why, they are giving you lots of time to look for a job! Isn't that generous of them?
New York's 23rd Congressional District has become the site of a showdown between RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) and conservatives. The conservatives are winning -- but the RINOs are not being gracious in defeat. Now the RINOs are showing how much party unity means to them. They have no loyalty to conservatives; why should conservatives have any loyalty to them?
The latest showdown came when ultra-liberal State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava became the Republican candidate in that district. The ACORN racketeering arm, the Working Families Party, backed her. Yet the Republican old guard backed this useful idiot. Newt Gingrich backed this tool. The name "Republican" was all that mattered to them. Not principle.
But Sarah Palin, a true conservative, instead endorsed Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman. And so did other conservatives. The Governor of Texas, Rick Perry, said: "Electing Doug Hoffman will send a clear message that cannot be denied: conservatives must stand on principle." Oklahoma gubernatorial candidate Mary Fallin said that Hoffman had "reminded Americans everywhere that principles come before party affiliation." Kansas senatorial candidate Todd Tiahrt explained the choice: "The Republican Party is either going to return to the party of fiscal responsibility and consistent conservative principles as it was under Ronald Reagan or it will continue down the path of ‘sporadic moderation.'"
And Saturday, the Arctic Fox had the last laugh: Scozzafava dropped out of the race, saying: "In recent days, polls have indicated that my chances of winning this election are not as strong as we would like them to be." Palin responded generously, writing: "I want to personally thank Republican Dede Scozzafava for acting so selflessly today in the NY District 23 race. Now it's time to cross the finish line with Doug Hoffman so that he can get to work for District 23 and the rest of America."
Palin explained what was at stake: "With Congress poised to overhaul one-sixth of our economy with so-called health care ‘reform' (which is really a government takeover of health care) and with plans to enact a cap-and-tax bill just as our economy struggles to recover, Doug Hoffman will be a voice for fiscal responsibility and common sense in Washington.
We need candidates like Doug now more than ever."
Scozzafava was not as generous. On Sunday, she showed her true colors: this enemy in our ranks announced that she was backing the Democratic candidate, Bill Owens, not the Conservative Hoffman.
This showed just how bad things have become. The Republican Party has been hijacked. Conservatives have been driven underground by the RINOs and the DIABLOs (Democrats in all but label only). This leftish creep was insidious until we got clubbed over the head when the ultra liberal media picked our presidential candidate -- the Gang of 14 tool John McCain.
We all sucked it up. We went along. We embraced the ticket in the spirit of AROO -- (any Republican over Obama) -- and we held our noses until Sarah Palin came along. Ah, just a spoonful of Sarah helped the medicine go down.
But now it's time to clean house. Newt and his ilk will be relegated to the dustbin of history, and deservedly so. Enough with the old, in with the true!
While the entire country is focused on Healthcare, a pivotal election and concerned about their military loved ones.
Politicians love cap and trade because they can claim to be taxing "polluters," not workers. Hardly. Once the government creates a scarce new commodity -- in this case the right to emit carbon -- and then mandates that businesses buy it, the costs would inevitably be passed on to all consumers in the form of higher prices. Stating the obvious, Peter Orszag -- now Mr. Obama's budget director -- told Congress last year that "Those price increases are essential to the success of a cap-and-trade program."
Hit hardest would be the "95% of working families" Mr. Obama keeps mentioning, usually omitting that his no-new-taxes pledge comes with the caveat "unless you use energy." Putting a price on carbon is regressive by definition because poor and middle-income households spend more of their paychecks on things like gas to drive to work, groceries or home heating.
The Congressional Budget Office -- Mr. Orszag's former roost -- estimates that the price hikes from a 15% cut in emissions would cost the average household in the bottom-income quintile about 3.3% of its after-tax income every year. That's about $680, not including the costs of reduced employment and output. The three middle quintiles would see their paychecks cut between $880 and $1,500, or 2.9% to 2.7% of income. The rich would pay 1.7%. Cap and trade is the ideal policy for every Beltway analyst who thinks the tax code is too progressive (all five of them).
But the greatest inequities are geographic and would be imposed on the parts of the U.S. that rely most on manufacturing or fossil fuels -- particularly coal, which generates most power in the Midwest, Southern and Plains states. It's no coincidence that the liberals most invested in cap and trade -- Barbara Boxer, Henry Waxman, Ed Markey -- come from California or the Northeast.

Obama has 5 Billion in competitive grant funding to hand out to schools. How is he going to decide where this money goes? Well, he plans on coaxing them into the policies that he sees fit.
Using stimulus dollars as bait, President Barack Obama is coaxing states to rewrite education laws and cut deals with unions as they compete for $5 billion in school reform grants, the most money a president has ever had for overhauling schools. And it may end up going to only a few states.
No president has ever had that much money for schools at his discretion. Only Duncan - not Congress - has control over who gets it. And only some states, perhaps 10 to 20, will actually get the money.
The "no child left behind" criteria has been an obvious failure. But for what Obama has planned, the teachers will be held responsible for the test scores, not the students, or the parents.
if you thought we had a tough time keeping a Head to the school board in Kansas city, before. Wait until we cant keep a teaching staff.
"Despite growing evidence to the contrary, it appears the administration has decided that charter schools are the only answer to what ails America's public schools," the National Education Association, the largest teachers' union, said in comments submitted to the Education Department.
The NEA added: "We should not continue the unhealthy focus on standardized tests as the primary evidence of student success."
Schools arent even eligible to apply without a series of stated changes to their education laws.
Last I remember, schools are a state and local controlled entity. This is another prime example of the Federal government holding states hostage to their demands.
It has been a long, dusty road. There are many individual stories. Multiply these stories by a few million and it isn't hard to understand how we came to this crossroads.
In high school Billy Joe met Lakeisha Renee, they fell in love and abandoned their previously good study habits. They both came from middle class families. The parents worked hard but didn't have a whole lot of money. The two became intimate. A pregnancy resulted. Midway through her Junior year Lakeisha dropped out to have the baby and she never returned. A few months after the baby was born billy Joe felt pressured to quit school to get a job to support the baby. The only job he could find with his educational backround was in a burger joint at minimum wage flipping burgers. One night Billy Joe got sick and went to the hospital ER and was turned away because he didn't have insurance. He complained to his Congressman and the Congressman proposed a law that no one could be turned away from an ER because of their inability to pay.
A Congressman in another district received a complaint from Dante that he had also been turned away.Dante had a couple of convictions for drug possession while he was in his first year of college and had been kicked out of the college because the possession charges ocurred on campus. He got sick one day and went to the ER and was refused treatment because he couldn't pay. Dante had not been able to find a job due to his drug convictions. He also complained to his Congressman. The Congressman in Dante's district co-sponsored the bill proposed by the Congressman in Billy Joe's district.
Jane had been an A student. She got drunk with some friends one night and took a dare to "hook" with some friends. She got caught, was convicted and expelled from school. Jane got sick and went to the ER. She was refused because she couldn't pay and complained to her Congressman. This congressman also joined as a co-sponsor on the law that Billy Joe's Congressman had proposed.
A law was passed after some deliberation that no person could be turned away from an ER because of their inability to pay.
Soon the medical community became overwhelmed by the number of uninsured people demanding ER services. They asked the Congress to protect them from all of these unpaid charges and the Congress proposed a huge health care plan which would require that every citizen who worked and earned their own money should be forced to pay into a plan which insured everybody whether they contributed their fair share or not.
It would seem that the more logical solution addressing both health care and individual responsibility would be to insist that our education system demand that students educate and conduct themselves so as to be able to afford to care for themselves with the understanding that we must each be responsible for our own actions.
Lesson from government mandate on ER treatment: GOVERNMENT SOLUTIONS USUALLY CAUSE EVEN BIGGER PROBLEMS.
On MSNBC on October 27, Rachel Maddow interviewed Jane Hamsher, well-known Hollywood roustabout and left-wing blogger for FireDogLake.com. The subject was the progress of Obamacare in the Senate and Senator Joe Lieberman's warning that he might join a Republican filibuster of the Baucus bill if it contained the so-called public option.
During the discussion, however, Hamsher went off on a tangent about the 1964 Civil Rights Act and made the allusion that the famed anti-civil rights Dixiecrats joined Republicans to stand in the way of civil rights during the 1964 debates.
Maddow: Let me ask you about the statistic I attributed to you in my intro there - I know you have been doing some digging on this issue - of a Democrat joining a Republican filibuster. How, how unprecedented would a move like this be for Senator Lieberman?
Hamsher: Well, we have seen a number of the other party cross overswell we remember the Dixiecrats joining the Republicans in the sixties on civil rights filibusters
Naturally, host Maddow did not correct Hamsher's misleading claim that the GOP stood in the way of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. In reality, Republicans were great supporters of the legislation. Leave it to MSNBC to continue the left's favorite myth that Republicans are against civil rights for blacks.
Of course, the truth is that the 1964 Civil Rights Act saw strong Republican support. In fact, of the total number of Republicans then serving in Congress support never dipped below 70% on any of the final vote counts. The original House version got 80% GOP support, the Senate version got 82% and the final vote in the House was 82% of Republicans in support. On the other hand, Congressional Democrats never saw higher than 69% of its membership in support of civil rights for blacks.
And who one of the leading voices in favor of passage? It was Illinois Senator Edward Dirksen, a Republican. Who was a leading voice opposing civil rights? Senator Robert Byrd, Democrat from West Virginia and still serving in that chamber.
If it were up to Democrats in 1964 the Civil Rights Act would never have passed. Yet here is the uninformed Hollywood Author Jane Hamsher of the extremist website FireDogLake falsely claiming that it was the GOP that stood in the way of civil rights for blacks. And it is MSNBC letting her get away with the falsity.

Members of Congress and the American people are just beginning to look at Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) 1,990-page government takeover of health care, but it’s already becoming clear just how costly and unsustainable this proposal is. From higher taxes on middle-class families to job-killing mandates on small businesses to cuts in Medicare benefits for seniors, here are 10 facts every American should know about Speaker Pelosi’s 1,990-page government takeover of health care:
1. RAISES TAXES ON MIDDLE CLASS FAMILIES. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill imposes a range of tax increases on families with income below $250,000, breaking a promise made by President Obama. Tax increases on middle class families include: an individual mandate tax of up to 2.5 percent of income for taxpayers earning as little as $9,350; repeal of a tax break on medicine purchased with funds from an HSA (health savings account); limits to tax relief through FSAs (flexible spending accounts); taxes on medical devices that will inevitably be passed on to consumers; and a new tax on all insurance policies.
2. MASSIVE CUTS TO MEDICARE BENEFITS FOR SENIORS. Despite grave warnings from CBO, FactCheck.org, and the independent Lewin Group that cuts to Medicare of the magnitude included in Speaker Pelosi’s bill would have a negative impact on seniors’ benefits and choices, Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill stays the course and cuts Medicare by hundreds of billions of dollars.
3. NO PROTECTIONS FOR SMALL BUSINESSES. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill claims to exempt small businesses from the steep eight percent ‘pay or play’ employer mandate. The facts tell a different story. Using Census data compiled by the Small Business Administration, this so-called ‘exemption’ hammers small employers with only, on average, 17 or more employees to new taxes and mandates. The outfits affected employ 70 percent of all small business employees, or 42.3 million workers. Adding to the assault on small businesses, the bill does not index the small business “exemption” amounts, meaning more and more small businesses will be ensnared by this job-killing employer mandate each year.
4. INCREASES THE COST OF HEALTH INSURANCE. Imposing a new $2 billion tax on insurance policies will be passed on to patients in the form of higher premiums. Changes to the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit will, according to estimates by CBO, will raise Medicare Part B premiums by $25 billion and Part D premiums by 20 percent. And imposing an unfunded mandate on the states to pay for the bill’s Medicaid expansion will shift the burden of this expansion on state taxpayers who may experience tax increases to cover the cost.
5. USES GIMMICKS TO HIDE BUDGET-BUSTING COST, PILES UP DEBT ON FUTURE GENERATIONS. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill claims to be deficit neutral, but uses budget gimmickry to hide its massive total cost. Working families across America know they cannot simply decide that a bill they get in the mail doesn’t exist, but that’s exactly what congressional Democrats are doing. In order to meet the President’s ‘target’ spending total of $900 billion, Democrats have simply swept costly provisions under the rug, including the $245 billion ‘doc fix.’
6. IMPOSES JOB-KILLING EMPLOYER MANDATES. Additional taxes on employers and new government mandates that dictate acceptable insurance will place new and crushing burdens on employers. These are burdens that will ultimately fall squarely on the backs of workers in the form of reduced wages, fewer hours or lost employment. CBO agrees that "[e]mployees largely bear the cost of... play-or-pay fees in the form of lower wages." According to the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s largest small business association, an employer mandate of this magnitude will disproportionately impact small businesses, triggering up to 1.6 million lost jobs. Two-thirds of those jobs would be shed by small businesses.
7. TILTS THE PLAYING FIELD IN FAVOR OF THE GOVERNMENT-RUN INSURANCE COMPANY. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill promises not to give the government-run plan advantages over private insurers in the market, but the opposite is true. The bill provides billions in start-up funding for the government-run plan, and while it requires the plan to repay the money over time it does not require the plan to pay interest on this “loan.” This interest-free, taxpayer-subsidized loan is potentially worth millions of dollars and tilts the playing field in favor of the government-run plan.
8. THREATENS CASH-STRAPPED STATES WITH UNFUNDED MANDATES. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill swells the number of Americans on the government rolls by expanding Medicaid eligibility. Medicaid is financed through a federal-state partnership, but the bill dumps nearly ten percent of the mandated expansion included in the bill onto the states. States, already struggling with fiscal constraints, would be left on the hook for billions of dollars due to this unfunded mandate.
9. CREATES A NEW MONSTROSITY IN THE TAX CODE. Starting in 2011, Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill imposes a 5.4 percent tax on adjusted gross income above $500,000 for individuals and $1 million for married couples. Yet, the dollar amounts for which the tax kicks in are not indexed for inflation. We’ve seen this horror film before: the Alternative Minimum Tax, another Frankenstein’s monster of the tax code, also wasn’t indexed for inflation and now affects millions of middle class families with incomes below the Democrat’s surtax.
10. MISSES AN OPPORTUNITY TO CURTAIL JUNK LAWSUITS. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill misses a critical opportunity to rein in junk lawsuits and costly defensive medicine. The bill includes only a voluntary grant program to deal with the medical liability crisis instead of including real reform, which would produce tens of billions of dollars in savings, improve efficiency in our health care system and reduce costs for patients and providers.
BONUS: Republicans have offered better solutions to lower health care costs and expand access to quality, affordable coverage at a price our nation can afford. Learn more by visiting healthcare.gop.gov.
So here we go again; attacks on the christian faith.
A man who worked for Home Depot in FL had been wearing a button that said "IN GOD WE TRUST". He had been wearing that button on his apron for over a year. Once this man started bringing his bible into work for reading on his breaks, he caught the attention of management. They told him he could not wear that pin anymore, he refused to stop wearing it, so they fired him. Now we all know that our country was founded by people that had a basic belief in god, our money is stamped with the very same slogan that this man wore on his chest. Every day in both houses of congress they have a prayer given by a minister who always mentions GOD. This man, trying to work his way through college got FIRED for this button. As of this posting, I have not heard of the ACLU coming to this man's aid. He has hired an attorney and is planning a lawsuit. In a story by the AP I read that another attorney said that this man will likely lose his case. My question is this: Had his button been in favor of gay rights, or for the NAACP, or muslim rights would he have been fired? Would the ACLU be absent as they are for this man? I also wonder what is so wrong with a man or any person wearing a button that says "IN GOD WE TRUST"?
Just the opinion of an avg joe
