• Monday Moments.....Thanksgivin

    Many people will be traveling during Thanksgiving week to join family for this special time.  I am one of those who will travel…I will be in Texas to visit my Mom and family.  I look forward to being with her and it will bring joy to my heart to see her.  I will be a very grateful person on Thanksgiving Day, both for my family in Texas and for dear friends on the KC blogs.

    Because I may not have time over the weekend to share my Monday Moments with you, I am posting it now.  I hope that you and your loved ones will have a thankful Thanksgiving!

    “Thanksgiving Seeds”

     

    Thanksgiving is like a seed that is planted in the ground and produces a bountiful harvest.  When we sow seeds of thanksgiving, it will produce good things in our lives.  We will reap a harvest of joy, contentment and compassion.

     

    The most joyful people are the thankful ones.  God’s gift to the thankful is joy.  Are you sad?  Find something for which to thank Him.  Are you discouraged?  Consider times of encouragement and thank Him.  You will soon find your heart rejoicing!  The best medicine for a discouraged heart is thanksgiving.  If you have a grateful heart, there will be joy there, too.    

     

    When we foster an attitude of gratitude, we can be content with what we have and not wish for what we do not have.  Thanksgiving for even the smallest of things develops a contented spirit within us.  A spirit of discontent cannot flourish in an atmosphere of thanksgiving, but contentment grows in the soil of a grateful heart.   

     

    When we count our blessings, we understand that God wants us to share with others.  Seeing all we have to be thankful for gives us compassion for those in need.  A thankful person will care about others…..will share of his resources with others.  How can we be truly thankful if we do not recognize and respond to the needs of others?

     

    Have a Thanksgiving that makes you smile!  May God give you and your loved ones hearts to plant seeds of thanksgiving, and may you know God’s joy, contentment and compassion during this season of thanks.

    IT’S A 2074 PAGE HEALTH CARE BILL!!!

    Here are the FUN FACTS:

    Spending:  The cost of the bill is $2.5 trillion over 10 years of full implementation (2014-2023).

    Taxes Increases: Taxes will go up $493.6 billion—nearly half a trillion dollars.

    Medicare Cuts:  Medicare will be cut $464.6 billion—another half a trillion dollars.

    Public Option:  The bill includes a government run plan and provides states with the possibility of opting out of participating in that plan.  According to CBO, the government run plan “would typically have premiums that were somewhat higher than the average premiums for the private plans in the exchanges.

    Employer Mandate:  The bill will impose $28 billion in new taxes on employers that do not provide government approved health plans at a time when businesses are still cutting workers. 

     Bottom Line:  Should this bill become law in its current form, it will be a short term, medium term, and long term negative for the US economy and the US dollar.  It fails to reduce costs and it increases the government role in 17% of the economy.

    Now help me out here. Who does this benefit?

    In Beijing, (during an interview with "FOX NEWS"; I guess it is a real news organization in China), President Obama warned that the U.S.'s climbing national debt could lead to a Double Dip recession.

    "I think it is important, though, to recognize if we keep on adding to the debt, even in the midst of this recovery, that at some point, people could lose confidence in the U.S. economy in a way that could actually lead to a double-dip recession." - Obama

    Hum, and what epiphany did he have in China??? He may also want to have a little chat with Benny & Timmy about their Quantitative Easing Program! My guess is he's just trying to get out of China without being scolded by the Chinese again about his monetary policy and pending Health Care costs.

    Just a quick update on a post I did a few weeks ago entitled PROFITING ON PARANOIA.   It was a discussion on people who deliberately inflame people on the Right for profit.   One of the many examples that I used was a program promoted on World Net Daily.   It offered to send each member of Congress a “pink slip” with your name & address on it to symbolize the “pink slip” you would give them in the next election if they raised taxes, vote for Health Care Reform, etc.  

    And yesterday was THE day!   I am happy to report that the WND event did in fact deliver to all 535 members of Congress “pink slips”.    A total of 5 million slips were delivered by box divided up between each member’s office.

    Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) was overjoyed at the 5,000,000 slips!  She said, “We can't say that we didn't know where the hearts of the American people are.”  

    Sounds REALLY impressive….until you do the math!    Five million slips divided by 535 members of Congress equals approximately 9,346 hearts of the American people.   And in a country of 308 million….that’s about 0.00003% of the population.

    Still for a “grass roots” protest, 9,000 people isn’t a really bad number, it’s just not as impressive as FIVE MILLION sounds.

    But you want to know a number that does sound really good?   Try $279,912.70!   That’s the amount of money that those 9,346 people paid World Net Daily at $29.95 each to print & deliver the “pink slips”.  Over a quarter of a million dollars to make a bulk delivery of 10,000 reams of pink paper to Capital Hill.  

    Somebody laughed all the way to the bank!

• SHELTERS TURN AWAY KIDS

    The other night you all did a report on the homeless,I believe it was the salvation army or something,it stated that they were full and had to turn away something like 60 kids.My question is why did they not turn away some of the others who had no kids and make room for these 60 kids?You always see it in the movies that women and children are always taken care of first,the men go last,has something changed in our values about who we help first?No one should be out in the cold weather especially kids of any age.I just do not understand turning away kids,they are the most vulnerable and need the help the most !

• LOSERS OF THE WEEK: 11-15-09

    Another week goes by and another collection of special people who contribute in a negative manner to the political discourse that fills our lives.  With special attention this week to those that make their negative comments in the name of God.

    So let’s start with the Rev. Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church who spent the early part of this week protesting in Washington D.C.   They held anti-Obama signs, anti-gay signs & anti-abortion signs as they marched outside….SIDWELL FRIENDS SCHOOL, which is attended by the Obama children.  The church website posted the following explanation for the site of the protest:  “Quakers?! Are you frigging kidding me? You pretend to be all non-violent, and you allow the most bloody, deceitful, evil, murderous bastard and his shemale sidekick to place their satanic spawn within your four walls?"   Note to the Westboro Baptists, the verse in the Bible where Jesus says, “Suffer the little children” didn’t mean to make the children suffer by calling them “satanic spawn”!   You people are real LOSERS!

    Ex-Congressman William Jefferson (D-LA), who brought whole new meaning to the phrase “cold hard cash” was sentenced to 13 years in prison for corruption and is now a 13 year loser (with time off for good behavior)!

    Senator David Vitter (R-LA) wins a nod as a loser due to comments by one of the challengers for his Senate seat.   “I'm not one to judge someone's sexual activity, but what annoys me is that he's so hard-core "family values," and he puts his wife and kids out there, saying he's a Christian family man. Then he's caught up in a prostitution scandal. He's a hypocrite”, said Stormy Daniels.   The porn-star-turned-candidate then went on to point out that if elected, she would be able to avoid sex scandals because all of her sex tapes can be found on the shelves at video stores.  You know you’re a loser when a porn star can claim the moral high ground.

    The Catholic Church also made my personal list of LOSERS this week.    Not because of the church’s influence in getting the Stupak amendment passed; I might not like the legislation but if you support the Right to Life movement, it’s your right to petition your representatives in Congress.   However, if you are going to take a stand for the rights of the unborn, you should also be willing to support children AFTER birth as well.   For instance, take the case of Nathan Halbach, a 22 year old man who is dying of brain cancer.  His mother also has terminal cancer.   Nathan’s estranged father is Father Henry Willenborg, a Franciscan priest.  When the Church was asked to help pay for medical treatment…they refused!  Father Henry was never a “Dad” to Nathan, the least he could do for his son is to petition the Order to help make his son’s death a little easier.  But he didn’t.    And the Church also weighed in on gay marriage this week in D.C. by promising to stop all charitable work in the city if the D.C. city council passed a gay marriage ordinance.   I don’t remember Jesus making everyone take a morality “litmus test” before feeding them bread & fish.  I’m sure Jesus would be proud!   So for these two actions…I’ve got the Catholic Church on the LOSERS LIST!

    Congressman Barney Franks (D-MA) gets a nomination for his comments to a local Fox News reporter.  When asked if he was present at the home of his lover in 1997 during a pot bust, he said he was but that he didn’t know the plants were there and since, "I not a great outdoorsman…I would not recognize most plants."  Now that may be true, but to put it in those terms leaves you open to a lot of silly news commentary.   Like Wolf Blitzer and Lou Dobbs who apparently can identify pot plants by smell and sight!  (Who also get a nomination for LOSER because people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.)  Congressman, there were a lot of better ways to have phrased your comments than you did!  But at least you improved on Bill Clinton’s “I didn’t inhale” line.

    Tweeter-extraordinaire, Sarah Palin also gets mention this week.   Not for all of the factual inaccuracies found by the AP in your new book, not for your Oprah interview, not even for letting your book tour get upstaged by your daughter’s baby daddy’s “hockey stick”.   You get named LOSER because of your crazy assertion that moving the words “In God We Trust” from the front of the coin to the rim of the coin is part of the great Obama conspiracy!   The truth is that this change was made by the Bush administration and you are a LOSER when your conspiracy theories are so far out there that even FOX NEWS fact checks you.

    Democratic strategist Ted Devine proved to be a loser this week when he responded to threats from various Democratic groups to halt donations to the party in favor of supporting specific candidates.   Many people do not want their money to help support Democrats who vote against Health Care Reform.   Mr. Devine stated that, “I think it is a very powerful point of influence when you go to people who rely on donations to fund very expensive campaigns and tell them the people they count on won't be there to support them because of their position on a single issue”.   Mr. Devine, only a LOSER forgets whose money it is to begin with that supports those “expensive campaigns”.  We'll spend it where we want.   And if quality reform DOESN’T pass….we’ll need that money for our increasing premiums!

    And finally, Tea Party organizers in Danville, VA get listed as LOSERS for their announced plans to burn in effigy, Speaker of the House Pelosi and local representative, Congressman Tom Perriello (D-VA) for their support of health care reform.    You can protest all you want…but you cross the line when you start burning people (even in effigy).   I know you feel you personally don’t have representation in Congress but the fact remains that more people from your district voted for Perriello than any other candidate.   So he IS your representation even if you don’t agree with him.   The neat thing about Democracy is that the majority rules!   I remember being called unpatriotic and treasonous for having a bumper sticker that read, “Somewhere in Texas there’s a village without it’s idiot”….that bumper sticker seems to pale in comparison to you LOSERS playing with fire.

• The Falling Dollar and You

    This is a convoluted subject, and may not draw a lot of comments, but here goes.

    For the past two days the international financial community has been fluid with chatter leading up to Obama’s appearance at the APEC summit in Singapore. Specifically, virtually every Pacific rim country has been unusually vocal about the U.S. dollar’s weakness and the accompanying Chinese Yuan weakness; (note: the Chinese exchange rate is tied to the U.S. dollar). According to currency observers, many countries, (not the U.S.) have been overtly trying to stem the dollar’s fall by purchasing dollars and adding them to their reserves. Despite coordinated and individual dollar purchases, nothing has stemmed the dollar’s  9 month plunge (14+%).

    The falling dollar makes other countries exports more expensive, and when the Yuan follows the dollar down the Chinese hit a worldwide home run in exports, since their products become cheaper and cheaper against all other countries. So, yesterday we had Timmy Geithner reaffirming the Obama administration’ commitment to a strong dollar policy, (hahaha, who is he kidding?). Today, we’ve had South Korean, Thailand, Russia and New Zealand publically calling for an end to the U.S./China exchange rate relationship. In the end, this worldwide finger pointing at the Chinese may actually help the U.S. attain something that they have been unsuccessful in attaining on their own; a competitive Chinese exchange rate. But wait, is this what the U.S. really wants at this time and place; more expensive imports? Just as the Government nears trying to exit their Quantitative Easing program, in which interest rates will have nowhere to go but UP, we throw in higher priced imports!!! Throw that into your glass of pepto, shake thoroughly, and swallow with one big gulp of INFLATION.

    In theory, exchange rates are a self-correcting. As a currency’s value declines the country’s exports pick up, leading to a demand of that currency, which causes its value to rise, and visa versa. What is missing from this picture is for the last 30+ years the U.S. has become a consumer country, which produces very little to export. So, as the dollar declines there is NOTHING to stop its fall, not to mention that the Government is currently printing dollars faster than the world can absorb them, which just perpetuates the fall.

    So, how do we get out of this mess? And folks, this issue will end up affecting you vastly more than Health Care or Foreclosures.

    I only have two ideas and neither one is good for the US.

    what is wrong with our government, i realize that they are busy but when a citzen is willing to do what they can to help but can't(they are stuck) in one spot meaning they can't pertisipate in anything can't even get out of the apartment  cause the landlord won't keep his promises! I am not trying to make ity hard for noone but at least i want to be heard! I have emailed the governor of missouri and e mailed everyone i could think of what else can i do?I heard that the city of kcmo was trying to clean up the neighborhoods but come and see how the neighborhoods are .The landlords don't care cause the people don't care , everybody wants MONEY! Of course it takes money to run a neiughborhood we are never gionna have a decent neighborhood if no one cares enough to at least look!people don't care about other peole.They don't even try.i can't use my right had to write letters or i would! I AM RIGHT HANDED but do to a stroke i don't have the use of writtinhg with my right hand.

     Although Muslims may not all be jihadists it IS true that some are. Since they don't run around with a sign on their forehead which proclaims "I am a Jihadist" we need to be wary of every one of them. Their religion teaches them that they have a duty to kill infidels (that is you and me unless you are a Muslim). Since they all believe that they should kill infidels (you and me unless you are a Muslim) their cult needs to be recognized as a cult and they need to be shut down. Only an imbecile would refuse to recognize what these Muslims are up to and defend a single one of them in the name of "political correctness". If you listen to someone who tells you thet "most of them are OK" and believe them don't weep if you, a member of your family, or your friend is killed by one of them.

    Unless these people who defend this evil cult are willing to give you a written and signed guarantee that no one you know will ever be harmed by a radical Muslim Jihadist terrorist don't listen to them.

• Passion or Obsession?

    I find a great deal of the current political climate extremely disturbing, whether on a national or local level.  The right and left have increasingly become the far right and the far left.  And a fair number of them have gone from far right to fringe right, and from far left to fringe left.  When did individual interests or even passions for politics become so obsessive in nature?

    An interest is defined as the feeling of a person whose attention, concern, or curiosity is particularly engaged by something.  A passion is a step up on the emotional scale - any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling.  An obsession is a compulsive preoccupation with a fixed idea or unwanted feeling or emotion, often accompanied by feelings of anxiety.

    An interest in or a passion for a topic by more than one person, with differing viewpoints on that same topic, makes for good argument and debate.  The exchange will be livelier if both parties have a passion for their particular viewpoints as opposed to just interest in the subject.  This is healthy interaction in which both parties can air the reasoning behind their positions, and listen to the other side's stance.  You or the other person might learn something new.  You might make a persuasive point.  All parties are actively involved, and you respect even the opinions that you disagree with and those who utter them.

    When obsession enters the picture, it's no longer debate because there is no active listening - just closed-mind ranting.  There is no more exchange of both sides of the picture - only data that supports the one position.  Because you don't care about anything or anyone who doesn't agree with you.  This is not only not debate, it's also not healthy.

    The next time you write a post, or pen a comment, stop and read it aloud before hitting the send button.  Ask yourself what it says about you.  Does it show your interest in or passion for an idea or belief?  Or does it say obsession - loud and clear?

• LOSERS OF THE WEEK: 11-08-09

    The week ending 11-08-09 was filled with political LOSERS!!!!    There were even more than I can list here; so, sorry if I missed your favorite loser this week.   And keep in mind that when I speak of LOSERS, I’m talking about those special people who contribute in as negative a way as possible to the country’s political discourse.

    Our first LOSER is House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), who after months of complaining about the cost of the Democrat’s Health Care Bill without ever presenting a Republican option, finally presented a Republican Plan 48 hours before the vote on the House Democrat’s bill.   Worst of all, he couldn’t tell reporters how much Republican plans would cost!   Note:  Mr. Congressman, your bill insures fewer people and according to the CBO costs more long term than the Democratic plan.  Maybe that’s why you didn’t know.

    This LOSER is a real disappointment to me!    SESAME STREET showed them selves to be losers for a skit that featured Oscar the Grouch reporting news for GNN (Grouch News Network) and criticizing rival network POX News!   (In fairness, it was a VERY funny skit but it was a  VERY, VERY inappropriate one as well!   And while it’s also true that it’s from a year old re-run that’s never been mentioned before this hyper-political climate we now live in, it doesn’t change the fact that nobody should have to take a right or a left to get to Sesame Street!

    Washington’s Tea Party this week gave us a lot of losers!

    These include Pro-Health Care Reform protestors, for being the first people arrested on Thursday.

    Also, the Tea Party attendees,  who came up with that horrible sign comparing Health Care Reform to the Holocaust by showing a pile of naked, dead Jewish victims of a Nazi Concentration Camp!    How do look at yourselves in the mirror?    Note:   Kudos this week to Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) for condemning the use of such signs.

    Reps. Steve King (R-IA), Trent Franks (R-AZ), Randy Forbes (R-VA), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Louie Gohmert  (R-TX) and Ted Poe (R-TX) all of whom are members of the House Judiciary Committee and ALL of whom missed votes on important Republican sponsored amendments to the Patriot Act.   Three of these amendments failed by less than two votes and all of these men were missing because they were at the Tea Party rally instead of in committee.   The sad part is that at least one of these amendments deserved to pass and instead of doing “the people’s work”, these clowns were “tea bagging” the people they are supposed to represent.

    Finally, in the category of “people who live in glass houses”:   House Majority Leader Boehner gets another nod for sneering at liberals who don’t support the Constitution by reading the Constitution….except he started quoting from the Declaration of Independence instead!    Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) who threatened to scare liberals by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and forgetting the words!   And finally, MSNBC News Commentator Rachel Maddow who in her zeal to poke fun at Congressman Boehner for his mix-up tried to tell us that there was NO preamble to the Constitution!     Some of you people need to spend more time watching ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5^TH GRADER!

    The Center for Disease Control gets mentioned for sending H1N1 flu vaccine to Wall Street.   (Lots of children needing a vaccine there I’m sure!)

    We also need to back up to last week, so we can name New Jersey gubernatorial nominee Chris Christie (R) a loser for stealing a clip from Monty Python’s Flying Circus without securing the rights and using it as a campaign commercial!   The members of the troupe are threatening law suit and Christie needs to remember that NOOOBODY ESCAPES THE SPANISH INQUESITION!

    In the category of FAMILY VALUES LOSERS, we have 2^nd runner-up, Nebraska Republican Party Chairman Mark Fahleson  who went trick-or-treating with a child dressed as Jon Benet Ramsey.  (That is so tacky)  But the real family values loser was Nevada Democratic Party Chairman of Douglas County, Paul Belt who pled guilty to assaulting his teenage son for getting kicked off the junior varsity soccer team!   You two are definitely NOT Father of the Year material!

    And finally, JAG officer, Tom Keniff gets the LOSER label for his condescending question to a fellow guest on Larry King Live.   While discussing PTSD, he pointed out that HE had been to Iraq and wanted to know if the dissenting guest had ever been to Iraq.   She pointed out that she not only had been to Iraq but had been shot and was a POW.  She was Shoshanna Johnson, first US female POW.    Talk about putting your foot in your mouth, sir!

    Yes, as the door closes on freedom with the possibility of both the Health Care Reform Bill and the Cap and Trade Bill there is one word to keep uppermost in your mind. That word is REPEAL. Any damage that can be done by this lunatic Congress led by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid can be undone by the act of REPEAL. Keep that in mind as the 2010 elections loom on the horizon.

    It will take a lot of work and selecting good candidates but everything that has been done can be undone. This nation can be returned to it's founding principles and freedom can once again ring across the land.

• Repeal of marriage for gays

     I find it interesting that in the article about the defeat, they suggested Pres. Obama should stand against the objectors with a 'moral imperative'. Dictionary says : moral is acting in accordance w/standards & established codes of behavior, especially in sexual conduct. Dictionary, also, says: imperative is a command or plea, having power or authority to command.  It is precisely the 'moral imperative' that I would hope would prevent him from standing firm for gay marriage. NEVER have 2 men or two women ever had the expectation of marriage. NEVER haver 2 men or 2 women ever had the expectation of having children. I have no idea of what their sexual practices consist of, nor do I care - but, do know 'whatever' they cannot produce children.

      I know GOD is not the fashionable subject, any more, BUT He does enter into this. It is a moral issue. The Gay community would have us believe their 'struggle' is equal to the Civil Rights movement. Give me a break - it isn't even close! 

      The Gay community is on the other side of the spectrum. What they participate in is not against the law, but it is under the heading of 'sins'. God does love them, therefore we cannot judge the persons & we cannot turn them out of society. Nor should we want to. But, we cannot rewrite the Bible to excuse what they do & it is clearly addressed, in the Bible -

     God's law for us, His people. If they claim belief in Him, that's all He asks. But, they are shortchanging themselves & Him.   Let them live together for 7 yrs & become common- law. That's been allowed, for yrs. Let them fight for their country; they should have that right. They can work anywhere, eat anywhere. We do not have the right to discriminate against them.  We do not have the right to abuse them, etc. They, as human beings, have the right to respect.

     But, they are asking for more than they have the right to. Jesus walked with them, but, did not become them. Jesus does not come down to our level. Once He comes into your life, you are raised up to a higher level, just because you are in His presence.   2 men /2 women  sharing the same bed is NOT a higher level.  I'm sorry - this is not malicious or hateful. It's just the way it is....  They chose the words - moral imperative!

• PROMOTING THE GENERAL WELFARE

    We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
    
    Welfare
    welfare n. 1. health, happiness, or prosperity; well-being. [
    
    Welfare in today's context also means organized efforts on the part of public or private organizations to benefit the poor, or simply public assistance. This is not the meaning of the word as used in the Constitution.
    
    Promoting the general welfare is the part of the preamble most often used by Liberal Progressives to justify the establishment of welfare programs, food stamps and other programs aimed at the re-distribution of wealth from productive citizens to non-productive or under-productive citizens. The same argument is also being used by the current crop of legislators who are attempting to force re-distribution of wealth with a massive Healtcare Reform bill which really has very little to do with improving access to good health care and has EVERYTHING to do with political power and bringing everyone down to an abysmally low level of access.
    
    Notice that the phrase reads "promote the general welfare". It does NOT say "establish general welfare". There is a reason for this. The founders wanted to promote an atmosphere in which business could flourish and provide jobs to citizens who could then take the money they earned either through their own business or by working for someone else and make personal choices about how to spend their money. Freedom of choice is what it is called. Each individual is free to decide how they wish to spend the money they earn.
    
    In short, the government has NO authority to promote the "general welfare" beyond providing an atmosphere in which that general welfare can occur.
    
    By regulation the government prohibits the free sale of health insurance across state lines. By doing so it fails to provide an atmosphere which promotes the "general welfare". Health insurance would be much more affordable if there were open competition. For the government to attempt to correct this failure by passing Health Care Reform is absolutely ludicrous.
    
    This is just one example of how far we have strayed. There are many other examples. It will be a long hard road but with perseverence we CAN bring this nation back to it's roots!
    
    "We're from the government and we're here to help" is a phrase that should send up red flags for us all!
