WDAF-TV, Fox 4, "4 on the hill" (slang for double dating) Back in The Day,and I are close to the same age. I remember the good old test pattern, with my bowl of "Wheaties" waiting for Romper Room. Growing up in the late 40's around 43rd & Main and then moving to 34th & Wyandotte life was great. I could run the streets and my Mom never worried until Bobby Greenlease was kidnapped, that's why we moved from the main street address 9 blocks north to a safer neighborhood. Bobby was last seen alive at the "Katz Store" at Westport & Main he and I where about the same age.
My life changed later in the late 50's, moved to Independence and lived across the street from one of the best man that God ever put in two shoes. Mr Everett Jones, work for WDAF-TV as an Engineer lived across the street from me. His son, had health challenges and didn't get outside much. Mr Jones took me to my first Collage, Pro, Football Games, and Prof Baseball, the A's at Municipal stadium, If you went to the old stadium you remember "Sam's Parking" I look back never seemed to be much of a walk from "Sam's Parking in a neighbor's front yard. I was walking a foot off the ground at 11 years old going to see a game. At the games I would sit in the broadcaster’s booth behind the announcers while Mr Jones did the engineering.
I guess I've gone down enough old rabbit trails this morning, hard to believe it's so nice on 6 Nov, and it is a good morning to remember a good man, Mr Jones.
I have no idea where to list "my ramblings?" Guess "Offbeat" will work.
