While the initial Town Hall meetings did not go exactly like the Obama adminstration had scripted them, and some of them clearly reached a fevered pitch, none of them resulted in any incidents of violence until AFTER Obama called out his troops for a counter-offensive. Any and all violence associated with these Town Hall meeting must now be laid in the lap of the President of the United States of America.
Why on earth would any President use name calling, and publically call out previously silent, unconcerned citizens to counter an otherwise peaceful disagreement? Yes, they were lively and sometimes loud, but no violence until after the Presidential call to arms. Perhaps our President needs to consult with his Joint Chiefs of Staff and learn that counter-offensives and calling for re-inforcements are actions required when the initial thrust is beaten.
So now, anyone that opposes the nationalization of Health Care is a "Mobster and Right Wing Extremist" So, what does that make our President? - Feel free to fill in your opinion, our President did.
So, to all those people who believe that everyone opposed is a mobster or extremist... allow me.
I am a registered Republican.
I am a fiscal conservative - Republican agenda
I am a Capitalist - Republican agenda. Failure is the other side of the success coin, embrace it. One persons failure is another persons success.
I am anti-Entitlement Programs - Republican agenda. I believe man takes care of his own. I know I practice this philosophy.
I support a smaller Federal Government - Libertarian agenda. The Feds need to concentrate on the powers vested to them in the Constitution and leave everything else to the State and Local governments.
I am an enviromentalist - Democrat agenda. I recycle everything I can. I drive a 4 banger 2.5 litre auto. I do have and use a wood bruning fireplace.
I am Pro-Choice - Democrat agenda (but with lots of reservations about when and why)
I am anti NRA, but Pro 2nd amendment - Fence straddler agenda. I unequivalcably believe in the individual's right to own guns. I don't believe that individuals can own ANY weapon they want. I have no problem with registration. I register to vote, and it is a Constitutional Right. Until the NRA can support these caveats, I can't support them.
I am pro-profiling - Republican agenda. Until an Asian, Hispanic or wheelchair bound grandma flies a plane into a building, we need to search only people of Middle Eastern appearance. If 60% of crime is committed by Blacks then our prison population should be 60% black.
I believe the Majoity Rules - Republican and Libertarian agenda. Why can one person cause the 10 commandments to be taken down or for the Christmas holiday to be re-named Winter Break??? Yet, 45%+ that are opposed to National Health Care are Mobsters and Extremist???
I could go on, but I think you get the point.
So what am I??? You decide, although Mobster Dog comes to mind
coldsteel, 7 months ago | FlagDog you must realize that when it comes to all things leftist, style always trumps substance. They have nothing when it comes to logic and reason. They rely on smear tactics. They attack the messenger rather than the message, because when you take the emotion out of the argument; they've got nothing.
This president has drawn heavily on his experience as a community organizer. He uses mob tactics of his own; namely enlisting paid thugs throughout the tenticles of the acorn organization to intimidate and harass anyone who gets in his way.
Make no mistake about it, Obama is a communist and a domestic enemy of the U.S. Consititution. And he has surrounded himself with marxists and ivy league apologists of all sorts. He must be stopped, sooner rather than later.
We the People now are faced with an infiltration of communists like we have never seen before. We faced these enemies of liberty on the battlefields of the world, and we turned them back. We won the cold war; we even sent them packing when they tried to use Cuba as a base for their nukes; but now we are watching them come in the back door laughing all they way to the white house.
WAKE UP PEOPLE! You are being sold down the river. You may have been good at spotting foreign enemies of the U.S. constitution but you are just now coming to grips with the reality of its DOMESTIC eneimes.

Of course they're "rebranding" to sell thier policies. Everyone does it and has done it in the past. But it doesn't change the fact that reform of insurance regulation has been part of the Obama campaign for at least two years that I know of.
And you know that I don't object to the joker pics. (I think they're stupid, but I also thought they were stupid when they did Clinton, Bush, McCain & Palin.) But the Hitler references are WRONG! They were wrong for the left to use & they are wrong for the right. I have always thought NAZI references should be left to history books. And the "eye for an eye" mentality of both sides is pretty sad. If it's wrong...it's wrong! You don't get a pass because somebody else did it first.
And yes, I was against wire taps WITHOUT warrants. The lack of warrants was my ONLY objection to wire tapping. Most of my problems with Bush's war on terror concerned his insistence that the Executive branch was above review. (I also have some objections to Obama's handling of some of the same issues.)
But the program by the Obama administration that you refer to is simply PR. There are LIES put out by the Right concerning health care reform. They are started on-line & go viral. They become urban myths that people need to know the facts concerning...like is Obama really going to euthanize old people. This program helps to track the arguments, nothing more. This was a very good campaign tactic that worked very well. Those on the left would prefer not to be "swiftboated" ever again.
Calling out supporters when media makes it look like your side is not being represented is standard practice. The problem is not that both sides were represented but that one side tried to intimidate the other...and it got ugly. Look at Cleaver's meeting today. Lots of people from both sides present. Lots of discussion between the attendees. No fights, no screaming, just honest debate. That's American!
JDog, 7 months ago | Flagnemo,
I know exactly why the Administration and Congress now refer to it as "Insurance reform"; because they were losing traction with Health Care reform and needed an easier target to continue their cause.
As for the references to Hitler's Germany, it's like the Joker pictures; How does it feel? Additionally, when the President personally calls for his supporters to counter a growing wave of disapproval, it undeniable takes on a characteristic of a certain German leader. And now the President has called on his supporters to report, via an set-up website, anything they consider mis-information or false rumors. Sounds fishy.
Weren't you against wire taps without warrants??? I suppose you will argue that the wire taps were done by the Governement and the "reporting" is being done by the citizens
One was done in the quest to provide a safe homeland, and the other is being done in an attempt to have a save a 'personal' agenda. BIG difference, to me.
Perhaps we just need to have a beer and agree to disagree.
I'm against Nationalized Health Care. You know that. I'm against ALL entitlement programs. I'm against any form of bigger Government. And just like the professor Gates incident, while these protests were news, the President's reaction has made them BIG news. Let's not forget that there was NO violence until AFTER the President made his call for help. Bad reaction that has spurred consequences. I believe that the President now bears the responsibility for all the violence. Clearly, the time-table of events says he is.
The are MUCH better ways to respond.

One of the most important parts of health care reform is reform of insurance regulation. Proposals for reform would keep insurance companies from barring you for pre-existing conditions, would prevent insurance companies from disqualifying you when you need expensive treatment because of a mistake made when you filled out your insurance paperwork earlier. This has become a serious problem. You pay premiums for years not needing care and when you do, you're told you forgot about a treatment you recieved in grade school so your policy is cancelled. Insurance reform is an important part of health care reform. And it has been mentioned for at least two years that I can think of.
As to the "fight" I want...I still maintain that some on the right are pushing this way too far. Now it's being put out on twitter to bring firearms with you to town hall meetings.
If ACORN/SEIU attends these meetings for disruptive purposes, and you have a license to carry....carry," read one tweet.
"I suggest you tell your people to calm down, act like American citizens, and stop trying to repress people's First Amendment rights," one caller warned. "That, or you all are gonna come up against the Second Amendment."
And even worse, the left wing extremists are now beginning to sound the same as the right wingers.
jdog: You are one of the most intelligent commentators on this site...do you really think that Obama is Hitler anymore than he is the anti-christ. I know you disagree with his policies, but he's not Hitler anymore than he is the anti-christ. And you are smart enough to know that. The use of "Nazi references" by both sides is beyond the pale.
JDog, 7 months ago | Flagnemo,
I'm confused, the two communique
s you posted refer to "insurance reform". The protest I've seen were in response to Health Care reform.
Didn't Obama campaign on Heath Care reform??? I don't recall insurance reform being mentioned by Obama during the campaign, or even a month ago!
You can put lipstick on a pig but...
Maybe it's just the many different colors Obama changes into that has everyone riled up. Maybe his teleprompt
er broke down again and and he mis-spoke. And the second memo you posted referred to "fight". And a fight you've got.
If you don't like my reference to "counter-o
ffensive" and "call to action", then I don't like your reference to "mobsters" and right wing extremists " FAIR IS FAIR
Maybe "gestapo, SS, or Storm-troo
pers" would be better terms for the people Obama called on for help? You tell me what to call them, I'm open minded.
